My CP Overlay, (compare rgb and cmyk)
« on: July 13, 2003, 05:29:47 pm »
Here's a pic of my new CP overlay.  The arrows came from oscarcontrols.com.  This is after printing at Kinkos on paper.  They printed a test sample for me on vinyl and it was more washed out than I wanted it.
The art was origonally done in RGB, but Kinkos prints in CMYK.  You can see the originol blue on my website (click my banner on the bottom).  It was the blue tiled image in the background.  The print came out more purple.  They told me another option that may be more accurate would be to find a local print shop with an offset printer (more colors I believe).

I think that looks pretty cool.  It's like an optical illustion - it looks like the cp is going off into the distance, but you are pretty much right on top of it.  nice.

washed out colors: You'll get that with CMYK, it's never going to be as good as RGB.  I don't know why the guy recommended offset, because it would cost many hundreds of clams to do it and you only have the one piece.  It would be brighter, tho, depending on what brand of inks they used. But that is still CMYK, too (unless you used a pantone color or something).

That's a nice control layout too, BTW.

Thanks for the compliment.
I'm not sure what the offset printer jazz is.  I'm not too concerned about it though.  I do know that it will cost more, and that I can't do.  Besides, I'm really happy with the way it turned out considering I've never done anything like this before.  -Dr.J

Looks fine to me. Nice work!

In Photoshop, if you hit control + y, it should convert your image to look as it will in CMYK, it's not perfect, but it will give you a better idea of what it's going to look like before blowing hundreds of clams on printing.

Yeah,
I should have mentioned that I tried that.  The print actually didn't look nearly as bad as the converted image did on the screen.  It actually looks a little better in person than the picture posted here.
