Momo and G25 Steering

<< < (3/4) > >>

jasonbar:
Sorry for the thread resurrection, but I'm trying to get my driving games set up & have been reading all the old threads about the preferred wheels.

The Logitech G25 sounds like the nicest wheel, and its cost doesn't turn me off (well, not too much...).

The feature that's making me lean towards the Logitech Momo, though, is that the Momo has 6 buttons *and* the paddle shifters on the wheel.  The G25 has but 2 buttons & the paddle shifters on the wheel, with a large array of buttons over on the shifter (which I don't think I'd use much).

Do the red buttons on the G25 wheel perform the same function as its paddles?  If so, then doesn't this limit the functionality of some of the more complex driving games?  Spy Hunter, Road Blasters, Spy Hunter II (don't laugh!), RadMobile, etc etc.

Thank you,
-Jason

The buttons are separate from the paddles.

You say you wouldn't use the shifter much, so having that isn't a big factor for you.
The clutch pedal would likewise not be a big deal, I would guess.

I would highly recommend either the Driving Force Pro, or G25, for the 900 degree steering.
The MOMO wheel is only 240 degrees.
The 900 degree is adjustable.
I set mine to 360 degrees on the PC.
That gives you a full half turn in each direction, and makes the wheel feel much more realistic to me.

I haven't used mine on MAME games in years, so I don't remember much about it.
I would think the gate shifter on the G25 would probably be preferable on games that support independent-position shifting though.
If you are just going to pick AUTO anyway, it still wouldn't be that big a deal.

Howdy-

Thanks for the info.  Sounds as if the Momo's the way to go for me.

I was unclear in my post.  I was saying that I don't think that I'd use *buttons* attached to the G25 shifter unit, not saying that I don't think that I'd use the shifter itself.  Oops.  I certainly would use the shifter, mostly in high/low mode, as that's how most of the classic racing games were set up (except for a few 4-speed shifters like on Sprint...).  My PC can't run any of the fancy newer racing games (Rush, Virtua Racing, etc), so I don't need a gated shifter.

Thanks,
-Jason

I'd still recommend that you get the Driving Force Pro, or the Driving Force GT, over the MOMO.
They both offer the buttons on the wheel, but both have the 900 degree steering.
After upgrading to the Driving Force Pro, from the Driving Force GT, I wouldn't get a wheel without the 900 degree steering anymore.

When you said you wouldn't use the shifter, I understood that to mean that you wouldn't use the 6-speed function of it.
The other two wheels both have the up/down capability, so using only that on the G25 would be underutilizing it.

Thanks--will probably go w/ DFP.  Doing some searches around here, you've recommended it in quite a number of threads--you're obviously very happy with it!   :)

Momo has 6 buttons on the wheel, so DFP's wheel buttons don't seem like a big advantage.  And the DFP is missing the Momo's paddle shifters, but I won't miss those, as no classic driving games had paddle shifters.

Soooo, it seems that the optional 900deg capability is the big difference between DFP & Momo.

Does this wheel have same/similar mounting space requirements as the other Logitech wheels?  Or, perhaps I should just ask: how much depth on the top & bottom of my control panel front do I need?

Thanks for your help,
-Jason
