(Unusable signal) 25" RCA Model #f25254GY
« on: October 10, 2008, 09:30:07 pm »
Im getting a unusable signal error with my tv. Im using one of theses
using the yellow video cable. My tv doesnt have S cable.  I did some research on this converter and it says your computer must have a tv out capability?? And that its rare.  How have you guys hooked up your old crts without an S cable?

Even with an S cable you have to have TV out capability on your video card.

Just because you hook that adapter up, it's probably still trying to feed 31khz to your tv.
Which is "unusable".

If you don't have TV out, try Soft15khz and see if you can tweak your video card down to the proper resolution that the tv will accept.

Make / Model of video card and TV would help also.

Duh... sorry wasn't paying attention.

I doubt you have TV out then if you are using the onboard video. There is no general WINXP setting for this. It would come with the video card setup. So unless your motherboard clearly has an RCA out or an S video out, then I'd say you don't have that function.

You'll have to try something like Soft15khz to drop the output resolution of your onboard video along with using that adapter. IF ... it's even capable of doing that. Maybe worth a shot since it seems to work for alot of GeForce chipsets. Will it work for yours..... don't know. There's a full sticky thread at the top of this section about it though.

I generally don't mess with that stuff, so maybe someone else will chime in and have a better suggestion for ya.

Are you sure it's not booting ?
Do you have it connected to your TV since you installed Soft15khz?

If it's outputing 15khz you won't be able to see it on your regular vga monitor.

Also note:

Attention! The Windows default drivers are NOT compatible.
So make sure you install true NVidia drivers for that chipset.

hahah found that out the hard way. lol. thought i was doomed. i had to go into safe mode to get back on the pc. That was scary.   I dont have the cab pc hooked up to the web so I have to burn everything from my main pc to the cab pc. So your saying get the current nvidia drivers? Also your saying  this TV only takes 15khz? Sorry im a noob, but what does a snes and genisis put out? They work fine on the tv.  Im kinda looking for the no brainer hook up! HEHE Is there a better video card that i can buy to make this easier?

Those adapters are for a specific type of video card that uses some of the VGA pins for TV out - I have never come across one that does it.

A real video card should have a 7 pin plug that does HDTV out and may come with an adapter to take it down to composite out. Otherwise you can get external scan converters that would cost more then a decent video card anyway.

yep that worked thanks. I forgot that i had hooked up an old projection tv that way. I found an old geforce card that had s cable to composite out. Works great. Thanks guys.
