My 1st Topic! NBA JAM to MKII
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:48:32 pm »
Hi everyone.  I'm not sure if any one is familiar with the New Hampshire coast, but it is riddles with big and small arcades.  I grew up riding my bike to these arcades and developed a passion for these old beasts.  (Nope, I don't own a PS3 or an XBOX 360 haha)  Anyway, it has always been a dream of mine to own some arcade machines and I have just purchased my first one.  I managed to get an NBA JAM game in it's original Dedicated cab and in quite good shape, despite some fading on the side art.

Anyway, my favorite games were Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat II.  My question is regarding compatibility with my new cabinet.  I know that it's all midway and all Jamma+ but I know the MKII runs off of DCS sound, and the button config. is different between all 3 to some extent.  If I were to cycle through these boards or even perhaps do a multi board set up what issues would I have to deal with?

As far as the CP goes I plan to make a 2P MK setup to swap out when needed.

Thanks so much in advance for your help.

Alf

As far as swapping the boards out, there will be no problem there. All you will need to do is add some wires into the CP harnesses for your lp and lk attacks if I remember right. You may not need to do anything. I am not 100% sure. In any case, here is a cheat sheet of all the MK control wiring configurations for the lp and lk buttons. Hp, block, and lp should all be included in the jamma harness already....

Current collection - 28 cabs, 4 pins. (32 machines and not enough room)

Did the DCS board use the Jamma connector or did it connect to the speakers directly? I recall something odd about it in particular.

Here is a video I made a few days ago testing an NBA Jam PCB and an MK1 PCB in a factory MK1 cab. It shows that the boards are 100% swappable with no wiring changes needed....

Thanks so much for everyone's help! MK3FAN, I have watched all of your vids multiple times!  They inspired me to get involved with this in the first place!  Have any pointers about building the MK control box?  I already purchased an MKII CPO from mamemarquees today as well as the MKII Marque, Jamma & sound boards/cables.  I may end up making new sides for my NBA JAM cab to preserve the originals and to give my cab the correct Midway Fighter profile with dedicated art.  I like NBA JAM.. I LOVE the MKs!  If I saved all of the money I spent on the MK games at the arcades growing up I could have probably bought all 4 (5) new.  :D

Thanks again everyone!!!

Thanks. I used the prints at jakobud.com when I built mine. They are pretty accurate. I attached them in this post...

It all seems pretty simple except for the wire connections.  I just need to find the harnesses for my new CP wires to plug into the existing.  Is happ a good place, or should I use generic PC connections?

I downloaded the plans a couple years ago, but the site was up until about a month ago.

Hey Brandon, let me know if you still need the plans.  I have them.  I just built the control panel tonight.  I just need to buy the lexan and rout it tomorrow.  I post pics when it's all done.   ;D
