Start of "new to me" project.
« on: September 12, 2008, 07:38:50 pm »
This bartop was a prototype dbuss started and built some time ago. He offered this cab and another in the Buy/Sell/Trade "Free Items" thread. I had a friend in Michigan that picked them up, eventually took them to Indiana and a friend from Maryland transported them to Pennsylvania for me.

This is a very small and narrow cab measuring 14.75" wide between the insides. I think it would be too cramped for two people to try and play at the same time.

I am planning to make the first one a single player cab with a SF 6 button single stick layout. I'm not sure why he made it a two stick with 2 buttons in between the two sticks and 4 buttons on the front. I never asked...I'm sure he had a good reason.

Anyway, I made a cardboard mock up of what I'm starting with. This is my first attempt at laying out a CP, so be gentle. I will take all comments and advice as constructive criticism as most of you have done this many times before.

It will have a Micro ITX PIII 800Mhz w/512MB RAM and a 40GB drive running XP Pro and MAME with Mamewah as the frontend. I'll very likely just copy the config files from my Taito MAME cabinet along with all the ROMS to make things easier. My other cab boots directly to Mamewah as the shell with no login screen and a changed boot screen. I'm very happy with it and I think the new PC combo will work just fine. (I already installed MAME and the frontend and tested a dozen or so games and it performed just fine so far).

There are some good games that use two joysticks:

Well, that seems to answer the question why there are two sticks on such a small cabinet.

Thanks for the link!!! Good info, but I still think I may go with a single. Still working in cardboard and I have a populated CP with two sticks, so, I can go either way I suppose.
