2 Ms. Pacman cab scores.....
« on: August 23, 2009, 12:21:08 am »
Yesterday I picked up 2 "non-working" complete Ms. Pacman cabs for $350. The seller advised that 1 cuts on with a blank screen and the other doesn't cut on at all. Both apparently were on location at some point, because they have quite a bit of wear and tear to the paint but structurarly the cabs were great. Once I got them home I took the time to tinker a bit, and when I cut on the "working" cab I got a screen with numbers and character sprites littered across the screen.  I tried to swap the PCB's but the other machine had the grounding plug missing, and because of that it shorted and charred the eeproms  damaging the other PCB (this is apparently why the second cab didn't work.)   So with a little trouble shooting I swapped daughter boards and the first Ms Pacman WORKS 100%

When I have time I will replace the plug on the second cab and hopefully it will power up, and so far it seems the only thing that needs replacing is the eeproms or the entire PCB. And as you can see from the pics they both need a REALLLLLY good cleaning.

Nice.  I need to go down to your area more often as you seem to get some good deals.  Too much competition up here with people trying to make a buck.

Actually I think I was in your neck of the woods....I drove to Rustburg to get them, and thats a very nice area.

At some point I plan on saving my pennies (AGAIN LOL) and Restoring at least 1 of these machines to former glory...Ms. Pacman deserves the effort.

That's 'a bit' of wear?  Looks mainly like the CPs are worn, and that's it besides dirt and grime. (Marquees faded is a given, due to the age.)

Looks like mechanics were putting their hands on the sides while still covered in engine grime!

(Marquees faded is a given, due to the age.)

I've seen only 2 out of dozens of Ms Pacs that I've personally come across that still had the pink on them. One was in a very dark bar and the other had been painted black before the pink had a chance to fade...

I have the speed chips. They make it too fast. Great snag especially for the cost.

OK....so where can I go to get a COMPLETE set of Ms Pacman EEPROMS. The main PCB and the aux. board chips need replacing.    I swapped the working aux. board with the charred PCB and it played BRIEFLY before rebooting.

There are a few people that burn EEPROMS in the hobby, a lot recommend http://www.hobbyroms.com.

You'll have to provide him with images.
