rom pob, mala/mame
« on: August 13, 2008, 06:03:22 am »
ive got latest mame and mala with art work ect.

when i try run few games eg, burgertime, commando, donkey kong, anything with a overlay.

i get the overlay screen but no game runs.

also somegames like 194x says files missing

also after extensive searching how do i get mame to auto bypass the ok part and showing rom information on screen? is there a tut.

ok just found out i need a recompiled version of mame with the naggs took out, anyone know where i can grab a already done version?

Maybe try the software forum?

I would ask for the thread to be moved though rather than making a new one.

Not sure how to fix that one.  Can you turn off overlay support somewhere and see if the game starts up then?  Anything that changes the behavior is at least a starting point on how to debug the problem.  I've never used overlays before, so I can't really help much.

then you've got a newer MAME.exe than your ROM set.  Find out the names of the missing files and locate them.  As MAME advances, lots of older games that used to work break, because better dumps of the ROMs are located and the emulation gets better.

You really should compile your own.

It's super easy with the stuff in the above link, and you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself (you did build your own cabinet right, why stop there?)
Plus you can then always stay up to date with the latest MAME builds instead of being stuck at whatever version you get if you can find someone to send it to you, you can change any message you don't like, add high score support, etc etc.  The advantages far outweigh trying to find a shortcut.
