Daphne dll a trojan?
« on: August 06, 2008, 04:07:14 pm »
The latest version of Kaspersky Internet Security (2009) is picking up the Daphne file "par-io.dll" as a possible trojan.  There is nothing about this on the net yet, not even on the daphne forums or on viruslist.com.

Can anyone shed any light on this?  I'm assuming kaspersky just sees the way that file interacts with the system as a possible trojan, but I want to be sure.

FYI: For some reason i can't post on the tech forum for Daphne, so until the mods tehre fix taht I thought I'd post here.

You'll notice it says which sub-forums there are locked out from posting new topics.

I realize that.  Thus my posting here too.

No no, it means there are actually easy ways to get an answer. You have to follow their protocol.

:banghead: Again, I understand that.  I have a post at the Daphne forum in the open threads area.  I've followed their protocol.

However, there aren't too many folks there posting.  There is more traffic here and there are clearly folks with experience with the app on this board.  Since we also get more traffic here the likelihood of someone else using the new Kaspersky engine is greater.  I just thought I'd catch more flies by posting here as well.

Seems to me posting in multiple locations would be the easiest route to an answer, not just one post in one forum that gets low traffic.

Anyway, my response at Daphne was what I expected.  One of the developer team members basically blew it off as long as I downloaded it from their site (which I did).  Personally Kaspersky really freaks at the file.  Even from just attempting to DL the zip.  Daphne should let kaspersky or viruslist.com know what it up witht eh file because some folks may turn away the instant that warning screech comes up with Kaspersky.  And there is a chance the file could cause a security breakdown if the heuristic nature is exploited.  The new engien they are using is extremely thorough and new, so much that no other engien I've used (even previous Kaspersky versions) picked up this behavior.
