« on: July 30, 2008, 03:43:20 am »
Hello folks,

i have finally found a good monitor for my mame cab
i also ordered the vga breakout cable from ultimarc

my questions are the following (i am new)

1. does the monitor run on 220v?
2. will it accept signal from my 6600gt with soft 15khz tool?
3. what do i need to be carefull of when mouting the monitor to the cab?

thanks in advance

voltage on this one is not quite as simple as you may think, first are you in europe and does the monitor have 4 wires on a green plug for the voltage
if you have four wires then two wires are for the degauss at 220v and the the other two are for the monitor board at 120v

I have a Hantarex 900 and my radeon 7500 runs fine with soft15khz with it.

For mounting the monitor just take it slow and get some help.  Those suckers are heavy.  You should be able to figure out how to get it in if you take your time and look first.

My monitor runs from the wall -> through a transformer and directly to the monitor.  My cable had four wires but only two are used (power).

Actually i picked it from a guy today where i bought it from

i have a transformer that runs trough another type of electrical thing and then a few cables one goes to the jamma connector still on it and two cables go in the monitor

i fired it up it degaussed and i felt electricity going through the screen i felt it with my arm hairs.
i didnt see a screen or the thing lighting up , but i heard it needs a valid input to show something

you will need a game board to see anything but it sounds correct

another type of electrical thing could be the power supply :D

or the input from my video card right?

im going to use a vga breakout cable

i will cut the video wires from the jamma connector ( i dont need it) and solder them on the vga cable
use soft 15khz and fire my pc on
this should give me something right?

only need to fix is the high voltage cable that is making a hissing sound where the isolation is a little bit worn out

photos are always the best way to id stuff,if you can then upload some pics so we can id everything correctly
the hissing,is it coming from the red wire that attaches to the tube from the monitor board?

will upload them tonight

its the white cable coming from the tube to the rear

you can locate the hissing when you hear closely where the cable is a litte bit worn out
its worn out just before going into the suction thingy on the back of the tube

I wouldn't be putting my ear that close to that area.

ok
the wires are fixed
and hooked my vga breakout cable to the correct wires

i use a 6600gt so installed 15k soft and rebooted
problem:

no matter which resolution i choose i cannot seem to get a stable picture
even when i adjust the hor and ver knobs on my screen

sometimes it stands still but when i try to do something on the pc the screen rolls again

what am i doing wrong'?

*more info* when looking at the molex that has the rgb inputs it has one white one that seems to be a h or v sync input next to that you have a yellow cable that is not connected at all to my vga breakout because it was cut in the center somewhere
is this also a sync cable? that would explain my problems

yeah well after i had given up i looked in the manual and there it was
exactly as you said

so i soldered the wires back together and presto it works
now only the screen goes black sometimes but when pressing the molex it comes back so im guessing i have a lose contact some where, do you advise soldering the wires directly to the pins on the board?

and also im using soft 15khz how do i know my monitor is getting 15khz indeed and not more (im not risking blowing it up)

thanks for your help :)

If you see a stable picture on your monitor, it's 15khz.   That's how you know  ;)

Check for bad solder joints on the bottom side of the chassis on those pins.

15khz is software, so its not loaded until windows has loaded up.
The bios and boot screens won't be available.

Well, I use a JPAC which takes care of this for me (splits the 31khz in half, gives you a split screen) but according to the soft15khz thread, Sailor has never had it hurt a monitor BUT warns that technically it could, so...use at own risk ;)

EDIT:  As for your zsnes question, will your monitor handle 640x480? if so, use that res for zsnes and such...

Well after fiddeling around how to mount the monitor etc
we did it   :applaud:

the cable is not replaced yet because i need to order it somewhere from high voltage cables are rare here.

only issue i see is in gameex and in some games:
sometimes it jitters one some lines then it goes away anyone nows what that is?
or is that just the problem with soft15khz?
 ???

need to prove whether its signal related or a monitor fault.
is the whole screen jumping or is it just either the vertical or horizontal

the sometimes zooming in and out is the whole screen but really just sometimes

the jitter or disturbanced is the same horizontal line

is this a common thing?

i am not sure how much of this is down to using soft 15khz,tbh i like to know whether a chassis is running correctly at its normal resolution before trying to fault find these sort of issues
if its not frequency related then it will be down to one or more electrolitic capacitors faulty and maybe some bad solder joints
