Author Topic: How to insert T-nut?  (Read 2386 times)

How to insert T-nut?

Should a T-nut be placed in a countersunk hole and then tapped in with a hammer, or pulled in like a carriage bolt?  I'm talking about getting the spikes to sink down into the wood so the end of the nut is flush with the surface of my workpiece.

I just installed one yesterday.  Countersink it and tap with a hammer.  I don't think you can generate enough force on the nut with the screw to drive in the spikes.

Thanks.  I suspected that was the case.  I've been countersinking carriage bolts all week so that process was in my head, but it just looked like those spikes would require more force than the little square on the carriage bolts.

You can do it either way, actually.  Sometimes you're putting it in someplace you can't get a hammer.
