2player vs 4player
lettuce:
I did the same with my CP, went for a 4 player setup, but players 3&4 only had 4 buttons each, as there is only 2 roms that i cant think of that even use 4 buttons for player 3&4 and thats the 2 dungeon & dragons games, every other games only uses 2 buttons for 3&4 players. I can count on one hand the amount of times ive actually had 4 people playing at once on my CP, so it was really a waste of time and money going for a 4 player setup. If i was you id make another CP for just 2 players. Nice cab by the way :applaud:

Yes, I even considered that, but I would rather have my control panle uner 5 feet wide :)

This machine we did had a panel at just 36" wide, and in all fairness with a bit of thought we could go about 6" narrower and an inch or two shallower front to back.
I did some checking by the way for those wondering and the only multi-player games worth playing (even on other consoles) rarely needed more than 4. For example, SNES Bomberman only needs 4.

rlehm: why are you really wanting to change it? It's perhaps a foot wider than a 2P panel, but so? Definitely playing SmashTV with another would be cool.

Funny as I have a different experience as I regret NOT making mine a four player panel. My arcade gets used the most when people are over and NBA Jam and XMen are great 4 player games that I hate breaking out the wireless xbox controllers to play. The people who get stuck with those are always a bit disappointed.
So my suggestion: Great cab, keep it the way it is.

Yea dude I would leave it alone. Its already done anyway, your going to go through alot of trouble to save a foot. It looks more impressive as a 4player panel anyway even if it doesnt get used that often. Plus your illuminated buttons look cool when they are all lit up (I saw pictures of your old project thread).
At one point I really wanted your artwork and tried my best to find a high res copy of it but couldnt so I went with the old lightning theme.
What happened the light gun holders?
Anyway, I love your cab.
