Stronger bond - wood glue or contact cement?
« on: July 12, 2008, 04:18:23 pm »
I'm bending a 1/8" thick hardboard panel around an 8" curve and I want the strongest bond possible.  Any thoughts?  Does it even matter?

It depends on what you are gluing the hardboard to. I haven't had very good results using yellow (carpenter's) glue on hardboard and would suspect contact cement would be better, would need to rough up the hardboard first and apply a couple of layers of cement to the hardboard. I think a better alternative would be something like PL400, it can be messy and difficult to clean, so be careful, but it is a very good adhesive.

I think construction adhesive might work well in that situation.

I ended up using wood glue to glue the hardboard to another sheet of hardboard.  I let the thing sit for 24 hours all clamped up and it seems to have worked....
