How to replace the Nintendo DS touch screen (pre-lite)
« on: January 30, 2009, 09:09:51 am »
Hello from icy cold Maine :)

My daughter is so fond of her Nintendo DS, but the weirdest error kept occurring even after we replaced her first DS. The touch screen became less responsive.

To test if your DS screen is properly responsive go to the menu and choose "calibrate screen" (the icon looks like a target reticle)

If, when calibrating the screen, the sequence never ends, you'll need to replace that touch screen.

The good news is it's easy and inexpensive. You'll need to buy a tri-wing screwdriver (Nintendo's proprietary screws) and a DS touch screen. This pair can be had off eBay for like $12 on a good day. Mailed from China.

The "DS" and "DS lite" do not use the same touchscreen, so make sure you are ordering the correct one.

I took pictures during my first "touch screen swap" so I could do it again if I had to. So far I have done it 3 times with 100% success. It is very easy. Here are the pictures I used :)

(from this point follow the pictures in reverse to reassemble)

Have fun!
Craig

oops, there are no political discussions allowed?

Well that's OK, I have another thread in mind too. I'll replace the first with that :)

I hate to waste a perfectly good thread :)

There is a Politics & Religion forum specifically for that.

You have to PM saint to get access.  You have to read the rules regarding that particular forum, and then put them in your own words to show that you indeed undertand them.

I see, thanks

This measure must be the result of hot topics erupting into arguments
