hantrex polo 25 drivin force prob
« on: May 09, 2008, 05:41:22 am »
just took delivery of a drivin force game, when booted on the screen shows the rom check with lines going through diagonaly, the white is out of focus, i heard a noise like static so took back off and when powerd on and at bottom of anod cap you can see little blue spider like flashes going down about 1/2 inch does this a bit and stops but theres stil the noise of like when radio aint tuned in right, the neck tube light is a bit dull and not bright (unknowen if this is ment to be this way) and when its switched off you get a red dot in middle of screen for about 3 secs but was told this is normal, , the only colours i see are the rom check ones as it has a bad rom and wont skip this part, is this monitor savable or is it dangerous, thanx

you need to allow the cab to dry out,you have condensation around the anode cap-if you want you can remove the anode cap and clean off all the dust and crap and make sure its nice and dry
it will probably work fine once dry

the monitor needs the drying out as i bet it was stored in a garage or shed, you would need to leave this in a warm dry environment for 48 hrs
you will also probably find a lot of corrosion around the eprom legs/sockets which is more than likely giving the rom failure-you could try cleaning the board
i would say that cab is dedicated to that game but there is nothing to stop you rewiring the cab for any system

Have you adjusted any of the controls on the flyback?

Or any monitor controls at all for that matter?

ghosting could be down to badly adjusted colours/contrast or capacitor issues

well either your screen volts is way high or ic1 on the neck card is dead,
first adjust the contrast and screen volts, the screen volts is on the flyback tranformer and the contrast is on the remote board

the contrast was on full, so i put the brigtness right up and the picture was still a bit weak so i adjusted the "screen" on the flyback down a tad.
but still same, so i increased it a bit and the picture is brighter (there was some white glue ontop of the adjuster so i took it off)
the horizontal lines are still there, and the screen takes about 4-6 secs to come on, amd some crackles can be heard and hissing when 1st put on

today i thought i would inject a video signal to this cab from my turbo out run cab.
so i made up a lead that would reach over to the r force machine, red-red . gnd to gnd ect, when i booted up the machines the picture is there but it shows 2 flickering jumping turbo out run screens with very little colour

the reds are like yellows, i was going to try using the 2 syncs together but both machines are horizontals, lots of the components are rusty, maby it needs skiped and a tv put in or a cap kit? any suggestions

would a cap kit help the monitor or would it not make any dif. i found a place in uk. i think this is for the 25"
it says following
Cap kit for MTC9000/9110. Contents, 19 of the most vulnerable capacitors. (C53 not included). All 105C. £5.56 (HAN007)
470MFD 200V 105C Capacitor. (C53 on MTC9000) £5.95 (HAN010)

i cant see if mine is a mtc9000 or what it is, doesnt say in manual, on monitor or in parts list, i cant even find c53 on diagram

some latest pics of prob, picture 20 is the lines i get on monitor (no signal is connected)
picture 28 is green due to camera i think
pictures 26 and 27 is outrun runnig from another cab but signal is connected to this monitor.
the picture shows 2 screens and flickers with lines and and colours not correct(board works ok)

You probably put a gameboard (the second one, with the double image) that requires a different wiring for the Hsync and Vsync.

With no video input, adjust your flyback screen volts DOWN until the monitor looks almost black.

You should definently do a cap kit on this chassis and that may answer most of your questions.

tryed  adjusting the flyback anticlockwise with no video input, the screen is still blue, tryed turning that down still blue,
with the voltage down, when i insert original signal its dark (txt) till i turn it uo then its nice white and red is red, but still got the horizontal lines.

when i put it on test mode it does nothing but add vertical lines and i get short bursts of like static random lines ( like a c64 loading). and screen gives faint pulse flashes.

there is a high pitched noise from back of monitor, from the neck of it (i dont know if its ment to do this)

looking at your pics it is clear you have more than one problem with this monitor.
i know from just looking that this monitor has been stored in a shed or garage and is therefore damp.
you can also see that the vertical hold/position pot is knackered and the blue drive transistor is shagged
to fix this chassis you need to be a reasonable tech, you need to change T6(bf859),RV403(1K pot),RV401(4k7 pot)
you need to clean the anode cap and area aroung the anode as well, also i would replace r36(270r) and c14(4r7 250v)
bet that sorts your problem

found all locations on the video amplifier, so going to maplin now to see if i can get them.
the only one i might ahve trouble with is t6, will let u know how i go,
also the anoid cap needs good clean the sucker has white deposits and one terminal is kinna blue tipped prob with heat.
and down where flyback is theres like bits of metal or silver stuff there prob of the cage, will give board good brush  to and hopefully it will work

bits of metal stuff sounds like an exploded capacitor to me
