A N00b To JAMMA needs help part II Video
« on: April 24, 2008, 04:13:29 pm »
Ok guys I am almost home. I am now able to hook up a JAMMA system. I have hooked up my System 246 and it runs great! But I have one little problem. One my monitor is VGA and the system 246 works great on it but my other boards are standard res. I bought this signal converter
http://www.ambery.com/rgbcgatovgac.html
only thing is I have no way to connect the video out on the JAMMA harness to it. So if someone could either
a.) tell me how to do it in dummy terms  :dunno
b.) make me some kind of connector which I would gladly pay for  :applaud:
thanx in advance  :notworthy:

What kind of connector do you have on the video output of your jamma harness ?

Their web site has the pinout for their 15 pin vga style input.

It looks like this. I figure I have to cut off the plastic piece. I also cut a monitor cord from a KVM but saw a bunch of wires and have no clue as to run what to what.  :dunno

A small investment a multi-meter would be a big help here. A multimeter would easily tell you which pins are what when splicing this kind of thing together.

In the long run, the multimeter would also assist you in basic troubleshooting with the cabinet if and when any of the wiring comes apart or when you decide to swap boards.

I don't see how that would help me if the monitor cable wasn't plugged into anything. Wouldn't it all read the same?  :dunno I guess I'll have to trial & error it. I hope it doesn't hurt anything by doing so. I think I can get the red, blue, and green together but the hardest part would be the white synch wire. Wish me luck  :dizzy:

Use a multi-meter with the continuity test function to verify which wire goes to which pin.

You may or may not have to combine pin 13-14 if your jamma boards are outputing composite sync. (put those two wires together)

Well I have been trial and erroring it. So far I got picture but colors are all screwed up.  :banghead: and the picture flitters in & out. I know the converter works ok cause I tried it on my DVD player.  :dunno oh well I'll try again on Sunday. I work Friday & Saturday from 2:30 P.M. Till 3:00 A.M. If all else fails I guess I will have to buy a 27in TriSynch monitor.

Precisely. With a pinout from some place like pinouts.ru you can easily determine which wire goes to what pin. Combine this information with the wiring diagram presented from the other posters and creating the cable you need would be a breeze.

I got my monitor today!!! Nieman displays is def. the way to go people. I had no idea a standard res game could look so krispy and sharp!  :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy: Rick is a great guy and very supportive. He even made a custom connector to connect the monitor to my JAMMA harness. I probably couldn't have gotten that anywhere else. I am gonna buy a 24.8 trisynch from him for my Blitz99 machine when I get my chips together again      :applaud:  :applaud:  :applaud:

Hey DJ, thanks.... that is what I live for. Hearing feedback like this is music to my ears.
I strive to be the best at support and love feedback.. even negative as that is how I get better.
There is way more than enough of these guys that market offshore stuff that they not only support but do not know anything about.

We build it support it and believe in it.

PS what do you mean about your Blitz chips... e-mail me off the forum as I might be able to help you there too.
