Turning TV on Automatically...?
« on: April 29, 2008, 11:07:21 pm »
I've looked through various posts but never have seen an absolute answer on this but I'm looking to ask people who are using a TV as their monitor how it turns on after their overall 'on switch' is engaged.

I have a SmartStrip ready to go but does that turn the tv on (in the secondary outlets)?  My concern is that I was testing my tv just in a regular outlet and yanking the plug then plugging it back in, but it doesn't come back on without the remote.

I haven't had a chance to mess with the SmartStrip yet though but I'm wondering, if that's how you guys get yours going, is there some general TV setting that needs to be engaged?  Like some kind of stand by?

Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in with the power button held in?  It might be as simple as taping it on or soldering the power switch to where it is always "on".

If holding the switch on when plugging it in works you are lucky. You can either jam the switch closed or solder a short across the back of the switch.
However I just went through this with a TV that was microprocessor controlled. To turn it on one had to stroke the power on input to the microprocessor. Holding the switch would not work. With a lot of help from a fellow forum member we were able to build a transistor based one shot switch that turns on the TV. You will most likely need a schematic of the TV to do this.
You may also have trouble with the TV staying in video in mode. I had to solder a short to make that happen also.
