  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Cockpit style cab
« on: March 27, 2008, 10:06:04 am »
I'm just about done with my regular cabinet and now I'm thinnking about making a cockpit-style cabinet. This would be more or less dedicated to play Windows Star Wars games (X-wing, TIE Fighter). My problem is that I have no experience in designing something like this, as well as being inexperienced with wood-working. I'm quite happy with the cabinet I have (almost) done, but that was my first time doing any wood-working and I did have excellent instructions and help (in no small part from BYOAC - thanks!). Does anybody know of plans for something like this or have any ideas where to start? By "cockpit style" I mean, at the least, a comfy chair (I'm thinking one of those legless game chairs) that should adjust back or forward to allow for different-height players, and the controls would be laid out more spaciously than the usual CP - perhaps some on the side walls of the cockpit. The CP itself might be like a semi-circle or some other form-fitting shape laid out in front of the player. Full enclosure of the player inside the cabinet would be kind of cool, but I could live without it.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Scott, does not advertise them like he use to, if you will email him direct he will give you a link, I talked to him about cutting the cockpit for me & shipping in a kit form, he quoted me $650.00 to cut

Thanks. That's pretty sweet. If I had room, I might consider it.
Still have to finish my current project before moving on to the next.
