Just got back from Superauctions Milwaukee WI
« on: May 24, 2003, 04:28:48 pm »
It was a great time their (my first experience). I walked away with a D&D cab with a 25" monitor. Doesn't work (turns on but wavy green and blue lines fill monitor and stays that way. I plan to mame it, it has no side-art only the marquee art which I can give away along with all the other stuff in the cab (maybe) because I have no idea what to do with it or how to fix it.

Mr. Do rag was there....and yes he does smell. He bid on so much crap it wasn't even funny and their were a lot of phantom bids but the public wasn't "buying" it (no pun intended) so he was forced to lower the price. Mr. Do rag actually costed me $25 because he bid on my cab ($225 total...pehaps high but Im a newb and got too excited).

Cocktail cabs went for $1500!! (there was 3 of them). There was a couple other gems there...a mint galaga, Ms. Pacman, perfect tempest, semi-decent robotron...as well as some other things I forgot. Just thought I would let everyone know.

Now I do not know where to start lol.
Derek

P.S. Would it be hard (or possible) to install a 27" wells gardner D9200...are the specs on the website correct?

Sounds like a sellers auction. Do you remember how much the perfect Tempest went for?

If my memory serves me right, I believe it went for 600-700 dollars. Thats the best I can narrow it down.

I don't want to be negative, but ALL of the auctions around Illinois (WI, IN, ect) I have been to have been pretty bad and high priced.

Probably because it is harder to find stuff in these areas.

I wouldn't say that... there are plenty of arcades here... There is even a guy in my SMALL suburb who makes MAME cabs for a living; he sells things cheap (and gives away old pushbuttons) and in the end makes a FINE product. He also does repro Robotron and stuff.

The way to get cabinets and cheap games is to hang around arcade guys. My Time Pilot cocktail was $50 (minus boardset). I got my nearly NOS Artic Mini for a video poker boardset. There are several other nice games/projects that I could pick up for free to $30 today if I had room for them.

Basically, the guys who raid the warehouses have EVERYTHING.

yeah, for a mame cabient oyu can go to any vendor and pick out from the junkyard!

To get a good condition working game is difficult in this area compared to others.

Says the Poonga, who built his own cabinet, while I hunted high and low across MN for a cabinet or 5. BTW, anyone in MN who needs cabs, I have a good line on a guy with an infinite supply of them. Just be prepared to spend at least $100 buying random stuff, or he's going to get annoyed and...
a) Die of old age and anger.
b) Stop giving the hook up.

I built my cabinet AFTER I got a cabient from a vendor.  When I lived in Eau Claire, WI when I wanted a cabient all I did was go tot he local bar, write down the vendor info from a cabinet.  I called the place up, they said they had a couple of left over cabinet they would give away.  I got my double dragon 2 cabinet for free:)  It was completely working minus a monitor.  The marquee was ripped.  The sideart is in decent condition.  The CP has cigarette burns.  Nothing that isn't repairable.
I didn't convert that because it ended up being too small for what I needed.

So right now I have a double dragon 2 cabinet with double dragon 1 and 2 in it.  I plan on converting it to a vertical jamma cabinet for a couple of pcbs I will/might be getting.

DD is a JAMMA harness? I could maybe swap you a nice Vertical Galaxian Cab (repainted etc) with working everything for your horizontal cabinet. Could even kick in a brand new JAMMA harness.

Very tempting, as I'd rather have a pacman cab :)

My dd cab is in wisconsin right now at parents.  I'll have to think about it.
