Hard to Beat FREE!
« on: February 13, 2008, 11:17:54 am »
Last night a Galaxian went up on the local Craigslist...FREE!

The post describes a working Galaxian that "I've owned for over 20 years."

...and "now that the grandkids are older,  I need the room."

Of course I emailed last night.  This morning I get an email saying "I got a ton of emails from the ad and yours was the first... my address is xxxxx.... can you pick it up at noon?"

DONE!  W00t!   Unless it's a complete piece of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---,  it looks like I got my FIRST completely FREE cab (minus gas of course)...12 miles away too.

I just saw the results of his trip to pick it up over at KLOV.  Did not turn out so hot.   :'(

I'll let Friz explain it when he comes back to the thread.

Oh man, that sucks. Now that it was mentioned, it is kind of suspicious that this was posted after the infamous Galaxian mame/restore thread. Still wrong in so many ways.

Chad, I had the same problem as you, I couldn't get myself registered. When I tried it again after a couple of months, I couldn't get myself registered because the user name already existed !  :dizzy:
So i tried to log-in, and yep, I was a KLOV member !

"Funny you bring up Foxen...

...could have been him. I drive out to Caldwell...between the streets she says she's on...3329...3329...THERE IS NO 3329! The street goes from 3317 to 3401. Looks like I just got "f'ed with"? Just in case it was a typo on her part, I knock on the 10 doors on the block between the two streets that she says she lives between. A few no answers and a few folks who have no idea what in the hell I am talking about.

A waste of time...and about $10 in gas.

I emailed her when I got home, but no answer. Ad is gone from CL too. Oh well...sucks to be me. "

Yup...drove out there to find that the address given wasn't in existence.  Tried knocking on doors between the two streets the douch bag said their houses was between with no luck...

Luckily it was only 12.5 miles...had it been like 30 miles I'd have been really pissed.  I was none to happy about wasting 2 hours of my time though...---daisies---.

To be clear...I have ZERO evidence this was Foxen...and being that Foxen and I have a truce going,  I'd be surprised if it was him.   Who knows.   Still no reply to my "WTF" email I sent when I got back.

...and Chad...lets be fair.   I didn't "go off" on the guy converting the Galaxian.  I think Fozzy had stronger words than I?!   I did say it was a douch bag thing to do...and I may have uttered the word asshat in one or two posts...but i'd be hard pressed to describe what I did as "going off" or "Sam Kinnisoned"...or whatever.

I guess that was a little obtuse (taken from a thread in that place from that time about that guy and he thing!) ... sorry.

How about "you are a BAD man!" ?

EDIT: Who was I referring to when I called you a BAD man the other day ? And is somehow related to terms relating to landings on aircraft carriers ? And I think that he is a little cheesed at you.

Bah...he doesn't seem the type to pull an extra-cool "payback" like that.   Plus,  it seems that Roadrunner is based in VA and that the originating IP is from the Northridge CA area.

Well that settles it. Northridge, CA.

I'll call orbitz to book my flight...

We's got's some's stabbins' to do's!!!!

(I'm only kidding)

Damn man, you're taking this pretty well. This was a pretty good prank though, I'm sure the guy is laughing his ass off tonight. Also, Roadrunner have, for the most part, static ip service. It's HIGHLY likely the person still has the same ip. I know I haven't changed my ip in over 3 years, and I have roadrunner.....

Frizzle,

After reading your saga over at KLOV, I think I would have taken it well too. After moving back to Washington from California I really miss those Western Bacon Burgers with some Cris-cuts. Hell it'd almost be worth the trip for me.

Nice new avatar by the way, too bad it's not bigger so I can get a closer look at some of the stuff on your mind.  >:D

For those who haven't been paying attention ... this should solidify the impression that you have likely been forming of PBJ ... sending people out of their way, into potential harm just because he wants to.

Nice one, Jim.

Since I expected that he would try to pull this post (once he realized that it would reflect accurately upon him), I hit the QUOTE button in anticipation ...

I gotta admit I kinda pulled this stunt on someone once.

If you do a search for a certain item using a fairly generic input into Google, you turned up an ad for something I sold years ago.  It was an ad placed in Texas and it showed up as about the third or fourth hit... and considering this was something that's available worldwide, it truly was amazing (if any of us could figure out how to manipulate google like this, we'd be rich).

If you threw in the city name, it would be the #1 hit.  Now, this ad was something I had posted in 2002, it got reposted to some weird Canadian archive, and I got an e-mail in 2007 asking if it was still available.

At first I thought the guy was messing with me.. it was a 5 year old ad, but he seemed sincere about it.

I finally sent him on a snipe hunt to a fairly rough part of town.  And I'm pretty sure he went out there because we were discussing details up until the last minute... and I made sure to tell him to meet me at a time when I knew the drug dealers and prostitutes started getting restless.

Then, to really rub it in, I sent him an e-mail the next afternoon, basically going, "What the ---fudgesicle---, dude?!  I sat around for 2 hours waiting on your ass"

Never heard from him again.  :D

Nice try Jim.

I've got to say, that's one of the most ignorant thing I've ever read.  You're a class act.

I sincerely hope you just made this up for whatever unknown psychological need you have for attention.  If not, you really are the scumbag everyone keeps saying you are.

I think your main problem is that you confuse the byoac forums with rgvac and klov. Your "joke" would have went over great at those places.

Either way, intentionally trying to send someone into a questionable neighborhood that could lead them to be injured is not very funny. Giving them some old lady's address, that is funny.

Depends on other things, too.  If I rented a truck and drove 50 miles, I'd be ready to crack his skull, even if it was a safe fake address.  If I went 5 miles at little cost of time and money, I'd be annoyed, but not nearly as angry.

Either way I just don't see any point in wasting anyone's time like that.  Karma is a cold ---smurfette--- and will give you gonorrhea when you deserve it.

I went to look at a pin 80 miles away from a craigs ad last Friday. The whole way there I kept thinking "what if this is like that frizz scam?"

Luckily, there were actually both sellers and a pin there.

We'd be mad too, because you would have posted 50 times asking how to fit said item into said truck.
