Printing alot of solid black question

I have noticed when I print at home on my printer when solid black is printed it doesn't come out consistent. I also noticed this when I went to kinkos to get a black and white template done to see if my button layout would work. If one whole go to a professional printing place or mamemarquees does solid black come out good?
Is it a good idea to stay away from having too much solid black?

Are you using a laser printer? My work plotter had a horrible time with an asteroids bezel. That much solid black is very taxing.
Inkjets do a much better job. I did some marquees on photo stock and they were perfect in the solid black areas.

I don't have a laser printer. I was doing some testing at home and at kinkos before I figure out what I like. I think I might need to give that printing shop in my area a call and see what they say.

If you want black then you should make the color black using the other colors too.
i.e. CMYK, C=100%, M=100% Y=100%, K=100%

this way your black will look very black!

what program are you using? photoshop?

Ok, so that's easy as I said, when making the color use all 4 CMYK colors, or at least use 100%K 80%Cyan.
You need to put in CMYK mode your document.

On the screen, you won't notice any difference, you'll notice it on paper.

What about my last post in "my first crack at it" thread? Do you think getting that background printed I'll be fine?

It all depends on the printer.  The Kinkos you went to more then likely does not pay attention to clogged nozzles or heads that are wore out.  If you go to a Professional Printer the blacks will come out consistent.  And to touch on the cmyk thing that also depends on the printers, some printers natively print at CMYK others at RGB, you will need to ask the printer what they recommend.

The image you sent will be a little tricky for some, they will need a good profile and not put too much ink down otherwise the subtle changes from pure black to a lighter black will get lost.
