maybe a bit late to reply to this thread, but the people answering here seem to be a bit confused...
ToSec and goodroms aren't as "useful" as you think. If you get ahold of a dat file then you don't need such utilities as romcenter and or clrmamepro will handle all renaming, ect....
the dbases we release are made to be used with tools like romcenter or clrmame. if u don't have these, the tools will do nothing
And since romcenter and clr both give you choices in what to do, they are a much better solution in my book.
as opposed to what?
However if you run across dat files with names like "good tools" or "cowering's convention" ect, then that means the entries have been pre-standardized via these tools, which is a good thing.
euhm, the only big diff between cower's dbases and TOSEC's is that his dbases are attached to a renamingtool, while TOSEC's dbases are available for all the available renamingtools outthere.
another difference is that TOSEC has close to 350+ dbases available and that there are about 30 or so "goodtools" available.
All entries in the TOSEC dbases have names which were standarised, based on the TNC (TOSEC Naming Convention) whihc means that all our 200k entries have the same namingstructure.
