is this big enough?
« on: December 13, 2007, 04:37:48 pm »
hey guys im working on the graphics for my control panel and im not sure how the size differs. i have this image and want to put it on the my control panel. is it big enough? i dont know anything about dpi's etc etc and how the size translates, i want the image to be no more than 12 x 10 inches on the panel. is it good enough quality? because it would take a ridiculous amount of time to make it into a vector graphic, too much shading.
what do you guys think?

thanks

I would not make it bigger than 5x6.  Then you would start to see pixelation.  It's kind of like a photograph.  Would you make an 800 x 600 photo into an 8 x 10?  Probably not, but you may get away with it being a 5 x 7.

However, perhaps you can use it as part of a graphic on a bigger canvas.  See my Marquee for an example.  I used many characters which were smaller.

Good Luck!

I just ran that image through VECTORMAGIC and the result is pretty good!   You can then blow up the result to any size you want and then touch up any errors after rasterizing at the larger size!

the vector actually looks BETTER!

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Wow!  You learn something new everyday.  VectorMagic is great!  Thanks FrizzleFried!

Yes, it does look more arcadelike after the vectormagic touchup!
