Want to build a lightweight cabinet thats also collapsible
« on: January 20, 2008, 10:55:59 am »
Hello,

I live on the third floor of an apartment complex and was looking to build a machine.  I would like to use the lightest materials possible so it's easy for me to drag it upstairs.  Any suggestions?  Also, has anyone ever built a cabinet that you can easily take apart?  Just curious if it's possible and cost effective.

thanks

Do you own tools? Do you have a place where you can work on a cabinet? I would expect those to be the biggest hurdles for an apartment dweller...

If you want ideas for something that can be easily moved, look at some of the work done by Knievel Kustoms. For example, the Arcade Mania cabinet. Build it out of plywood and it will be reasonably light. Use and LCD monitor to further reduce weight. Remove the computer when moving it can also reduce weight. With the Arcade Mania design, you can probably make the control panel removable if you've got space restrictions.

Thanks.  The Knievel Kustoms machine is almost exactly what I want to do.  I would be building it in a separate garage then moving it, so I do have cutting tools.
