A button to replace the coin mech
« on: November 27, 2007, 05:11:05 pm »
There is probably a simple answer to this, but I did a search and looked on the wiki pages, but I couldn’t find it.

I want to add a button to replace the coin mech.  I have a game which already had this done.  It looked like they just removed two wires from the coin mech and plugged them into a push button.

I tried this on the other game and I get a coin error after the game starts up.  If I hold down the button when I start it up and quickly release and hold the button it will register the coin.  If I release the button for too long I get the coin error.

As I’m typing this I’m getting ideas of what could have done wrong.   It’s like the button is working backwards, so I guess I could reverse the connections.  It seems like the current is either on or off and it shouldn't matter which directrion it's going.  I want to get this fixed tonight.  So if there is a trick to this can you let me know.

Thanks

It sounds like you got your Normally Open and Normally Closed terminals mixed up.  Try the wire on the other terminal and see if that fixes the problem.

That was fast!

Thanks, I figure it's something like that, but last night I was scared out of running any other tests. It would make a popping noise when it gave me the coin error.  I didn't want to spend too much time screwing around with the wires, just in case I was frying something.

It has nothing to do with the WIRES being backwards...... it doesn't matter which way around the wires are connected as long as they are connected to a Normally Open switch.

You need to take a closer look at the SWITCH (button) you are trying to use.

As mentioned already, it sounds as if the button is Normally Closed (on) right now.
You need it to be a Normally Open (off).
Does your button have two or three terminals?
A pic of the actual button setup you are trying to use would help.

Right now the system is looking at it as if it were a stuck switch. (error)

I think they got it  right, easiest way to tell is hold in the button you have wired up, if you start the machine up and the error goes away you have it on the wrong prong.

If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

This is the end result of an inverse relationship between your P&R time and your arcade time. Sorry, but my jaw dropped when I saw your question. It was kind of sad really. I may be trolling, but it needs to be said.

Carry on.

yeah, scary stuff.

You know, most arcade cabs supply live voltage to the coin mech.  Maybe you should leave it alone unless you are sure of what you are doing.
