  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Need too build....
« on: November 14, 2007, 08:48:02 am »
I'm at a space premium.......so I ditched my huge ass cabinet and just gutted it.  I kept the main parts of the system (accidentally threw away the startup switch, threw out the speakers intentionally) and I plan on building something much shorter and smaller.  Now, the question.  How can you build something slim line, yet tall enough for control space, too eye height with the TV, and have enough space left too fit the boards?

I'm thinking of something about 5'0" in height, the width of an arcade power supply and the depth of one  and I would stack the boards somehow vertically.....
Has anyone built something like this and made it work?  How would one store the boards?

Later,
Neil

Knievel has some nice designs that aren't nearly as big as a full-sized cabinet. Check out his "Woody" and "Arcade Mania" pages. Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but they may give you some ideas.

Using a flat panel LCD screen saves you a lot of depth space.  Stick with a two player configuration for your controls (2 joys, 6 buttons each, perhaps even a trackball) and you should be set for width space.  The height can be anything you want it to be.

Now, you can always build a small bar top cabinet and simply place it on top of your bar which should be around 4-1/2' off the floor ......
