Mame32... DirectX how to be sure

Hi Guys I have been stalled in setting up a Mame test bed. I have mame 32, whack of Roms- says there is like 6300 games available.
When I start Mame 32m I see all these games as available, can see screenshots, marquees etc.

Double click to play the game and the screen goes black for a split second then comes back to the Mame control panel.

I am thinking a directX problem. I think I installed DiredrX properly, again whack of files in the windows/programs folder.

But how can I tell if it is running... are my off base.... any suggestions.

Try running it from commandline, and see what error you get.

Sounds more like bad/mssing roms to me, but I agree, run from a commandline and see.
