Some of the lazarus skins I've made:

As you can see, I'm all over the geek spectrum. ;)

hc, I've got plenty of movies and animated gif that "slide" from one position to another when you navigate thru the submenus of emutron.  Unfortunately I can't capture a movie for you as a) I don't have the software and b) my cab is not connected to the internet.  I can only get software to the cab, not the other way around.

Maybe you could make your script available then people could check it out themselves  :D

once again, I can't get stuff from my cab to the internet as it's not hooked up to the network.  My cab only has a cd-rom, not a burner.  So, I can't really get stuff off of it at the moment.

The animated effects were not what I was referring to. (It'd still be nice to see, but impossible to post here.)  I am more interested in seeing overlay effects and alpha blending techniques.

Something that up until now has been the standard was that artwork elements are very square.  As you'll notice peter has altered the skin engine of 3darcade to support alpha blending and overlays to better blend elements and round off the square look.  Dx Laz will look very similar when it's released.

I'm told emutron has this ability as well, I just haven't seen a skin created thus far that shows it off.  I know it's the new kid on the block and that might explain it, I just haven't seen any really cool looking skins for it yet.  I was hoping for a demonstration. :D

If overlays and blending are what you're talking about, you're right.  My scripts don't take advantage of either of these abilities.  If it is possible to do the overlays, I might try it at some point as some of the pics I've seen of the new emulaxian look great.

Should not be to difficult. I have not yet looked  into how the rects are layered in Emutron but I think pacmanfan mentioned you can set a color to be the transparent...so for a basic non squary look make a overlay bitmap with a dedicated transparent color...add it to the top rect then all other rects will appear behind it...

Well, EmuTron can do alpha blending +transparency + overlays, while moving - scaling - movie playing bitmaps fly all around the scrreen, One of the main problems is , There is no skinner application to help set this all up yet.
HC- As I was telling you, in the chat root, That's what I'm devoting my full attention to now, Re-writing my etconfig program in c++ only, and finishing up the Skinner Application for it. I think once that is complete, You'll see a lot more cool skins..

Several people have emailed/PM'd me about getting my configuration for Emulaxian.  I wanted to reply here instead of sending out 10 individual emails.  I can't send each of you everything but i'll try to get you something workable.  My email account only allows a small send/receive limit, so i can't send the whole FE configured and ready to go.  And, even if i could, you would still have to configure the .cfg files for your particular setup (i'm running a weird setup with everything on the D: drive).  Once i finish tweaking my setup i'll try to zip up the necessary files and make them available on my website (or, at least document the major cfg changes i made).  You'll still have to download the Emulaxian FE, cab models, MAME flyers, screenshots, marquees, etc. but at least this will give you a start.

If you don't want to wait i'd suggest using the new "simple" skin that Peter has designed and just re-skin it how you want.  It's a pretty simple matter to use Peters backgrounds as a template and make some "custom" backgrounds based off of his work (actually, this is probably going to be easier than integrating my changes).  Feel free to PM me with any questions, but realize that i can't/won't send files at this time.  I will try to help you out though.

if it is only the skin their after you could also if you like  zip it up and send it to me then I will put it in the skins section at the website. (maybe include an arcade cfg file as well if you use overlays or backdropf for the 3dsprite in the skin)

Hey liq.....  (Or howard)..

You know of any good books/resources for vb.net code for GDI+?

I've been looking for decent resources to toy with, but have yet to find anything solid..

(Besides planetsourcecode.com)..

I know of a decent dx9 for vb.net site, but that's about it.. :-/

Here's a few pictures of EmuTron that I got from a guy named Rick Reynolds. He's running a rotating monitor setup. When he launches a vertical game, EmuTron returns from the game and auto-launches into vertical mode, and vice-versa.
On one of the horizontal lists, he's got the games ordered by year and game name.

Here's a pic of the layout I've been using in MAMEWAH for the last few weeks.  Nothing spectacular compared to the other awesome looking stuff posted here, but pretty clean & simple and gives an idea what sortof stuff you will be able to do with it.  Just a slight graduation from the old standard look really...

Wait a day or so and I'll post some pics of "rejected" skin designs.  Some of em are kinda cool though, I might work on them as alternate skins.

ok here you go as promised....

http://www.oscarcontrols.com/lazarus/previews/dxlaz1.jpg

and

http://www.oscarcontrols.com/lazarus/previews/dxlaz2.jpg

In the first pic take notice of the color overlays and translucency.  Also look at the flyer image.  It's actually the flyer and cabinet images merged on the fly by replacing the black in the cabinet image with the flyer data.

In the second pic notice the foreground plain and how it rounds off the images' corners.  See the water-like ripples in the background?  That's actually an animated texture made by simply dropping the still frames in a folder.

Also notice that the logo images look much better than in classic laz.  That's because due to copyright restrictions I have ditched transparent gif support in lue of transparent png support.  It's full color with a true alpha channel, so it makes all the difference, even if the images are slightly larger in file size.

Anyway hope it was worth waiting for, and stay tuned for the release!
