Help! Problem with WG9800
« on: October 28, 2009, 09:11:23 am »
I just bought a Wells Gardner 9800 monitor.  When I turned it, I noticed that the right side of the screen, maybe only two inches from the right, is off color.  It's grayish yellow or something, going all the way down.  When playing games you can't notice it, but when going to the main menu in Mame (I don't  have a front end setup yet) I can see that part is off.  I tried degaussing it a few times and it seems to have gotten better.  I think. But deep down, I keep looking at it and I feel it hasn't gone away totally.  I turned the monitor off last night, hoping I'll turn it on today without any problems. Has anybody else have or had this problem before?  Is this a normal problem?  I'm not using the Soft15khz tool or an arcadevga card. My pc is plugged straight in.  Also, the games look awesome, but the menu in mame is hard to read on this monitor.  What do I do to fix this? Will using the Soft15khz fix this problem? I'm not sure why I have to use that if the games already look good?  I was just thinking of setting up Mala or another frontend, and then I won't have to deal with the small writing in the mame menu.  Any help or suggestions would be great.  Thanks guys. I've read teh monitor wiki, before you tell me to go read that.

No speakers or magnetic things near it.  I didn't put the monitor on it's side, but doing that would cause this?  Would that be permanent damage? Sometimes it looks like it goes away.  Then other times I look and it's clearly there.  I'm hoping there's some solution for this, as I don't really want to return it.  I called X-Gaming, where I bought it from, and they told me to call Wells Gardner for troubleshooting.  Wells Gardner just told me to degauss.  Am I doing that degauss right? I just selected it from the menu and then you see the screen flash a bunch of colors for a second.

i think the advice is spot on,what i think has happened is that the screen is so gaussed the the degauss option  does not have the guts to clear it
you can try moving the cab/rotating it until the picture clears, then degauss again, then switch off and return it to original position to se if that helps
