Thanks Franco ... its nice to have support from a fellow brit!

The stick is a u360 with the oval top, but I'm beginning to regret the oval now and wished I'd gone for a ball.

I've been having a look at the control panel thread and it seems that everyone has gone for a ball top. It does in retrospect look a little more classic, but I guess its not a really big deal to change.

Thanks again ... ratzz

Hey Javeryh,

No progress for a while -- I've been absolutely snowed under with work for the past three months. As soon as one project deadline ends, another one starts! It's been really frustrating.

I currently have all the parts stacked up in my office at home and my daughter comes in from time to time asking when it will be finished -- also getting pressure from my cousin for a completion date!

I'm going to order my t-molding and router bit next weekend (from t-molding.com) and get back on with it. I've toyed with the idea of building it and installing the t-molding later, but have thought better of it.

Thing is, I've done the hard bit and it's all cut perfectly and the artwork is coming together, so once the t-molding is in place it's all steam ahead!

How is Bella's project been going? Complete?

Also been interested in your new project which I was just looking for.

TTFN

Looking good so far.

Just make sure that this is the first game you load up once it's finished.

Good to see this thread active again!  Let's see some progress!!   ;D

Also been interested in your new project which I was just looking for.

TTFN

Bella's Arcade is 99.9% complete.  I haven't done anything to it (other than play it all the time) since March.  I really need to take some final pictures and get a better video.  My new arcade project is coming along but I haven't updated that thread in ages - I've recently been sidetracked with a small jukebox project which I'll be announcing soon enough.

Thanks Javeryh, its good to be back! I've been held up by lots of web design projects at work (including http://www.zombiearcades.co.uk), and I'm still really busy.

I'm going to order my t-molding within the week (from t-molding.com) and get my router-bit (although I've yet to decide where from).

Been following your projects, and have seen the 'Bella' youtube video. Looks really nice, but you're right, I don't think the video did it justice (lighting was pretty bad!).

Anyway buddy, thanks for the support and I'll keep things updated ... promise!

Keeping an eye on this one; Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds is my favorite piece of music; one of the few "theme" based music that really made me imagine what I was listening too (Rick Wakeman's Journey to the Center of the Earth is another).

  • Big Man!
if you have the 'Collector's Edition' of the musical in the big hard backed book it has high res glossy pictures of all the original artwork, might be worth a look in.

btw AWSOME idea for a cab ! the film was a shocker but the musical was and is awsome

Thanks David,

All the artwork has been 'vectorised' (and painstakingly burnt and dodged in Photoshop) so no problems with the size -- the side art of the Martian is actually 2 feet tall, and looks beautiful!

Just working on a few other bits and pieces and I'll be making a start on the build.

Ok, a little more progress to add ...

Thanks to a good buddy on the forum (Paulson), and the loan of his slotting cutter and arbor, I have completed the routing for the t-molding. So, Paulson, this beer is for you  Cheers buddy.

I wasn’t much looking forward to this part of the build – I thought that if anything was going to go wrong, it would be with this part, and with my rather old router. It was more a case of not getting things centred correctly and making a mess of one of my cuts than anything else. I’ve used a lots of router bits in my time, but I’d never used a slotting cutter so this was pretty new territory.

I also didn’t have any scrap to test on as the off cuts I had from the cab had got damp in my garden shed and had swelled, so they were no good. I did, however, do a 2” test on the bottom of one of my side pieces as this will be covered by the base anyway when it’s all assembled.

Having said all this, the routing was very straight forward, and the slotting cutter carved a lovely neat line ready for my t-molding.

So, next: ASSEMBLEY!!!

Hey all ...

After a sabbatical from the forums, and those long, dark winter months, the weather has finally turned for the good, and I feel the need to get back on with my project. My seven year old has also been on my back to get on with it, constantly asking “When’s the arcade going to be finished!”

My work has also been a factor in the delays, and being self-employed it has been a struggle to find the time to get back on with the cab with (even in the economic downturn) business being brisk. I’ve really been just too busy to even find a couple of hours in-between work and family life – the cab has never been far from my thoughts though, as it is components are in the corner of my home office and it’s been a constant reminder!

Mid 70 degrees here in the NW of the UK today, and as I listen to my dumb neighbours playing “Copacabana” and the smell of barbeque fluid filling the air on a bank holiday Monday, I once again get out my tools and begin the next phase of “War of the Worlds”.

Recently, whilst picking my wife up from work, I spot some speakers in a skip and thought they’d make a fine addition to my cab. Thinking of the planet, I took them home (no-one was around to ask) and once I’d cracked them open and discarded the casing was left with a four decent looking speakers and some grills and covers I may, or may not use.

Anyway, that was a few weeks ago, and today I got some battening and started to glue it into place with PVA Wood Glue. While clamped into position, I also hammered in some 1” nails just to keep the battening in place.

So, here’s the fruit of my pilfering and labour recently, I hope to add more soon -- as and when ...
