That's a good policy.  Though sports games can be pretty fun.  I'll play tennis absolutely any time I can get someone to play with me, but that can't keep Virtua or Mario Tennis from being a ball.

BTW, didn't Madden start on the Genesis?

I'm pretty sure it started on the PC.

It was still NFL '9x up to the Saturn, I know that.  I'm pretty sure I have both NFL '97 and Madden '97 for the Saturn but can't remember what the differences are.  The series originally started, IIRC, with Joe Montana Sports Talk Football on the Genesis, went through Deion Sanders, then was just NFL for a few years before getting Madden.

EDIT:  hrm, looks like there were some Maddens for the Genesis.  That's definitely a different game, though, as I remember the NFL series becoming Madden when it happened.  EA probably just shifted the license to what they considered they considered the best football game they had.

Hmmm . . . no, I'm pretty sure Joe Montana was published by Sega.  I seem to remember that being EA's big competition back then.

The Genesis version was released in 1993 or thereabouts. The PC version was released in... 1991? Other Madden versions exist for other platforms prior such as the C64 and Apple II (1989?). I've only ever seen the Genesis version from that time frame so I don't know if they're all using the same game engine or not.

If I recall, you couldn't buy the Genesis version for the first year or so. It was a rental store exclusive. At $140 or so to replace, people were still stealing it.

sega sports talk foot ball (later montana, deon sanders ,etc ) never became madden; madden started as madden.
The first madden didn't even have NFL teams.

Mutant League Football was better on the sega :p

Back to Strikers for a minute - we rented it one weekend, I think you're right Shmokes I believe it supports 4 players, but not sure.

It isn't split screen - but the little players are so dinky, the action a bit fast and furious at times (especially vs. a great online player) and my vision so crappy, that I have a hard time telling who I'm controlling on Super Mario Strikers.  Even so, it is pretty easy to get online and play a quick game.

The app that finally gets me a Wii may end up being whatever Mario Kart game they're planning... hell, strong net play has almost gotten me a DS about 5 times now.

I'm sick of 12 hour workdays.  I'm stopping in at Target on the way home and if they have a Wii it's coming with me.

 :banghead:

That's exactly what just happened to me. Just had a week of 12 hour days, and then sat down and ordered a Wii. Most I've ever spent on a games console I think - but I've always ended-up buying a generation behind.

Picked up a nice ebay deal with 2 controllers, and they offered a extra "free game" from a list - where you could choose Wii play so get a 3rd controller. Got a US one too (I'm in the UK - long story regarding importing consoles over here).

So basically got a Wii, few games, 3 remotes all for the price of a new retail box....

Looking forward to it now, reading these Wii threads... Need a hitlist of games next!   :applaud:
