Wei Ya chassis replacement - power question
« on: September 10, 2007, 03:37:06 pm »
After a few months of faffing about I'm finally ready to install this beast, then I notice it has a standard american power plug on it. Now I know that all monitors should be connected to an isolation transformer for safety, but how do I go about that if its got a us plug on it? (I'm in the UK as well).

I really want to use it with the old iso transformer, but the old wiring is a white and black wire (which i'm unfamiliar with, not uk standards o.O) can I just splice the white and black wire into the chassis' US plug, is there an order to which wire should connect to which?

Sorry for having my idiocy grace these boards again, but I really appreciate all your help over the past couple of years ^^

I'm not sure what the UK standards are but the black and white wires are as follows
Black = LIVE
White = Common

Not sure if that will help you out since, again, i'm not familiar with the UK standards.

not all monitors need an iso transformer,but most american standard monitors are not free range voltage and require 110/120 volts ac input
first connect the input(primary) side of the transformer to your mains(220v ac) and check the output( secondary) wires are 110v ac  with a multimeter before connecting the actual monitor
if all is good then connect the white wire to live and the black wire to neutral

The transformers still hooked up from my wells gardner k7000, which was 120v so that should be fine - I was just concerned about connecting the old white/black wells gardner to the new us power plug.

Thanks for the answers guys! =D
