What dos games are these?
« on: September 17, 2003, 12:37:38 pm »
I remember playing two games in the 80s on a Zenith ZP180 computer. These are very vague memories so I don't even know if I'm getting them right.

 1) You were a sorcerer's apprentice.  It was a side view game, but you could type in commands.  You started out in your room in the sorcerer's house. You had to get out of the house before the sorcerer came home.  There was a sorcerer's cat in the house, I remember typing in "kick cat" and the cat would run away.  I also remember it being on a green and black monitor, but that could just be the computer I was playing it on.

2) This game is played just like the Ultima series, but I remember if you type in a swear word you go to a screen that has a bar of soap in a mouth, and you have to apologies to get out of that screen.  It also had a rocket ship that goes to hell if you type in the coordinates "666"(or heaven with "999").  If it is one of the Ultima games, which one is it, and why can't I get to the mouth with the bar soap?

Thanks

The first one is Kings Quest!!!
I remember that one!!!

There was a whole series for that game. I had 1 through 6...
I loved that game... I was running it on an old IBM 486 I think...

<edit>
We used to draw out a map of where we'd been to keep track of everything... It was one of the few things my dad & I did together... Maybe that's why I liked it so much.

The first one is Kings Quest!!!

Kings Quest 1 looks very familiar, but which King's Quest has the cat?  If it's in one, where is it?

I played that games for hours and all I can remember now is kicking a cat.

I thought it was in 1...
It moves around a lot, so you just have to take advantage of it when you see it...

Wait... ::) That sounded bad... But you know what I meant. :)

It should be just roaming around the castle.

What kind of Sierra fans are you???

That was kings quest 3. Kings quest 1 featured King Graham trying to get his kingdom. Kings quest 2, don't quite remember, I think it is find his wife.

The KQ in question, number 3, you play King Graham's lost son, stolen by wizard. You have to go around collecting parts for spells, so you can turn on the wizard, kill'em, and return to your family. I remember hating this one, because the mountain the house is on was impossible to walk down.

Just as a side note, Quest for Glory 1 & 2 could possibly be the best games ever made for any computer.  # 3 was a real shame.

King Graham has a son!  I spent all day at work yesterday trying to find those items because he said he'd name me his sole heir.

Thanks jakejake28, DarkKobold, King's Quest looked REAL familiar, but it didn't seem right... I started to believe I played KQ1 and my memory and imagination made the rest up.

My bad...
It's been years since I've played them...
I think my dad actually came across the 5.25 floppies for them the other day...
Hm....
Maybe I could get them copied over to 3.5...

Yeah it's Kings Quest 3.  The BEST one out of the series (though 4 was decent too, but not nearly as detailed as 3).  I remember rummaging through the book to find the correct spells so I could finally use them...  :D  All went downhill with #5, IMO.

I don't know why, but after reading this thread I have the urge to find Commander Keen.

That was kings quest 3.

Yes it was, exactly like I remembered it.

I played it a couple hours last night, thanks for the memory refresh.

Kings Quest my buddy had on his IBM PC JR......it soooo owned.
