5/8 MDF instead of 3/4 MDF for CP?
« on: June 20, 2007, 10:39:03 am »
I've seen where some people are using 5/8 MDF for their control panel instead of 3/4 MDF like they are using on the rest of the cab.  What's the reasoning behind this?  Any benefits?  Any disadvantages?

5/8" MDF + 1/8" lexan = 6/8" = 3/4" total.

That way the sum width of MDF and lexan is equal to the width of the 3/4" t molding.

Dang it, I thought I had tried to figure out every logical reason on why to use 5/8.  Thanks for the info!

That said, I went to Lowe's yesterday looking for 5/8" MDF... the guy looked at me like I asked for homosexual shitake mushrooms.  I eventually found 21/32" plywood... not sure I want to make CPs out of ply while the rest of the cab is MDF.

Good plan! MDF is crap anyway; use plywood everywhere...

I already have the MDF in hand, may as well use it.

Maybe that's why he kept dropping his tape measure.

I think the latter is reserved for Home Depot Employees

where i live for the longest time lowes didn't carry mdf, and now they only have 3/4 inch.  i shop at home depot just about exclusively.  i saw a test somewhere between lowes mdf and home depot mdf and the home depot stuff was way better quality.
