Question...Jamma vs. Mame
« on: June 13, 2007, 01:46:18 pm »
Hi there, I'm thinking of gettin the Mame emulator Arcade game by Diamond plate. It has over 5,000 games on it and they say its pretty much the same as the coin games I played in the 80's. I found one for $4,100 delevered and I'm wondering if I will be happy with this type of game compaired to the old style im sort of used to....Thanks for any feedback you might have....

On a forum dedicated to building your own arcade cabs, you're going to get a universal hell no to that idea.

...all kidding aside...

If you pay $4K for a MAME box,  even brand new,  you are either really rich and throw your dough away and not feel it OR you are a moron.  So DON'T DO IT!

You can build yourself a brand new spanky cabinet with all the latest and greatest components for about a third that cost OR if you wanted to go with a pre-built,  I am sure there are MANY people on these forms that would build you a brand new cabinet for about half that price.

Do you have a link to information about this $4K cabinet?

I HIGHLY recommend you spend some time here and find out how fun,  rewarding,  and EASY it is to get in to this hobby and you too will soon spend more time WORKING on them than PLAYING them and not because you have to,  but by choice.

If you supplied the pc and monitor, you can get a cabinet built for 1k or less.

Anyone on the forum will sell you a quality built MAME arcade game for half of what you were looking at.   Take a look at some of the projects and see what you want before you spend double somewhere elsve.
