DVI-i to component problems
« on: June 04, 2007, 12:32:38 am »
I have a radeon 8500LE card and I purchased a DVI-I to component adapter thinking it would work.  All I get is a scrambled screen once windows loads.  The screen is black through the post, then scrambled in windows.  I also tried the ATICVPatch.zip method using a VGA to component adapter and all it did was make my previously working s-video connection go black and white and no component output.  I had been using S-video before this and now my computer will only output s-video in black and white since i installed the ATICVPatch.zip.  I can't figure out what the hell to do.  Can someone please help?

When I bought my adapter, I thought the info said it would only work with 9500 series and up cards.

Make sure the adapter switches are set to 480i, and that your desktop resolution is set to 640x480 (initially, you can change it later). When my PC boots, the Windows loading screens are scrambled, but once I get to the desktop everything is fine. I believe Component is finicky about resolutions.

The page stated that it is supposed to work with the 8500 series.  Also I have the switch on 480i, resolution set to 640x480, the refresh at 60hz, 32bit color just like the guide says, and still I only get a scrambled screen in windows.  I got my s-video working properly again, I have no clue what I did though haha.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers like 5 times and rebooted the computer over and over and finally the color came back.  I would really like to run component though, as I'm sure it is much more clear.  So if anyone has any help, I would appreciate it.  Also, could some of you guys post what cards you are using that are confirmed compatible with component?

I'm using a Radeon 9700 card and using a DVI --> Component setup. My TV is a 27" Samsung and I have it set to 480p. I never had any issues at any point. Maybe you might want to look into a card in the 9000 series range.

On a side note, you might consider making a system restore point any time you do something off-hand like this sort of thing.
