Coaching tips for soccer 3-4 yrs old
« on: June 02, 2007, 10:47:47 am »
Hi, I just started coaching my sons soccer team.  I was wondering if anyone has some idea's for practise ie games/drills, or methods for coaching.  My main problem is to get the girls motivated to play, the boys are pretty easy to get playing.  Keep in mind they are only 3-4 yrs old.  Thanks in advance for any idea's!!!!!!!!!!

For 3-4 year olds, drop a few balls on the field, go sit in a chair, sip a lemonade. ;D

Seriously though, set some cones down, and have the kids follow a path kicking the ball. That's probably about all you'll get out of them.

You can also have them practice dribbling the ball over the lines on field if there are any.  That's a good way they can practice controlling (or not) a soccer ball.

At that age the only important thing to do is make sure they enjoy it.  If they stop having fun they stop learning.  At 3-4 years old all you're going to do is get them running and kicking - maybe focus on dribbling as said above.  Don't expect much more than that.  Just keep them engaged and you'll be fine.  Remember, some kids are never going to act like they want to be there - they don't want to be there, their parents signed them up without asking.
