A twofold problem
« on: May 21, 2007, 10:11:15 pm »
(my apologies in advance for the obscurity of the description to come, but these are problems described about a monitor I would have to purchase sight unseen)

I am considering purchasing an Operation Wolf game but the owner says that "sometimes the screen goes squiggly, other times it's fine but [shifted] to the left."  I am hoping this is a common or at least easily recognizable problem so I can gauge how much work it will take to repair.

Any suggestions are appreciated -- thanks in advance.

more then likely something is loose or cracked if it switch's screen's have him turn it on and give the machine a wiggle and see if it matters.

First of all, it helps to know what type of monitor it is, as certain monitors have certain common failures that cause these types of problems.

It sounds like a hold problem.  If the caps are starting to dry out and fall out of tolerance, the picture will sometimes roll (go squiggly) randomly, or lock into position off center.  A cap kit will usually fix this, but you can't really write it in stone until you've had a chance to see it in person and do your own investigating....

Okay thanks for the suggestions.  That is kind of what I thought, but wanted to see if anyone agreed.  I'll let you know if I learn anything else.
