I'll start it off with what has to be one of the Top Five ever:

Hot Rod in the Pit with Snuka.

Now, I know that thing was sawed or whatnot to lessen its strength but, DAMN.  That's just flat out dangerous to get his in the head like that with a coconut, "fake" or not!  Surprised they didn't have him juice.

Heh.  I forgot all about the part with the belt!  Greatness!!!

Hmmm, I only remember Ricky Steamboat getting a bloody face during one WrestleMania on NBC.

I remember thinking that it was amazing at the time.

Couldn't find that match, but the match that event led to is here - regarded as perhaps the best match in WWF history.   Ahhh, poor, dead Liz   :(  :

After the early 90's wrestling started to loose its appeal to me.
There were a few in the past years that I have liked, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Goldberg but it will never be the same as it was.

Yeah, it really lost some appeal for me once they got into the Val Venis-type over-the-top foolish angles.  All the damn Divas and crap, too.

If I'm flipping around and Flair is on, or Hogan or someone from the glory days, I'll check that out.  Otherwise, I just look and say, "Who the hell are these guys?" and keep flipping.  :(

Just for the historical significance...the worst, lowest, most pitiful moment in wrestling history. The end of the Chamber of Horrors match. Abdullah the Butcher gets put in the electric chair.

Man, WCW really did some ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, even by wrestling's very loose standards.  Check out this site if you wanna be reminded of some of the worst wrestling had to offer back then:

www.wrestlecrap.com

I have their book, "The Death of WCW" but haven't started it yet.

I suppose you guy's preferences are tainted by nostalgia.  Behold... the undisputed greatest match in wrestling history.

Before anyone agrues the point.... how many other "gimmick" matches ever produced such a level of emotion and told such a great story?  Plus both wrestlers had adequate history, personality and back-story for you to care about the outcome one way or another.  Finally there aren't many matches that look this good from a guy with a severely broken foot (undertaker) vs a guy with multiple broken bones, a concussion and a dislocated shoulder (mankind)  and they finished the frikkin match!!

(I shouldn't even have to mention the fall.)

80's wrestling is nice, but aside from some great exceptions, it was mostly a decade of fat slow guys fake punching each other in facepaint.  ;)

The greatest matches I've ever seen were the series between AJ Styles and Jerry Lynn in the first couple months of TNA... those two guys built an entire company in the course of about 7 matches.  Right there with Flair-Steamboat and Owen-Bret Hart.

I have to agree 100%, by far the best match ever.  The best part was an interview I saw with the Undertaker sometime after that match, he was asked if he thought Mick was ok after the fall, Undertakers reply "I thought he was dead".

Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guererro had some great matches in WCW, but they were never really appreciated. I can't find the video, but Rey had a bout against psychosis and he executed a flawless huricanrana into a pin. And when I say perfect, he landed on the guys shoulders and next thing you know he is on top of him with both legs hooked - no reaching back after the fact. When I saw that I said "Holy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---!!!" Simply the best maneuver I have ever seen.

Another excellent bout I can't find video of, the Bret Hart/Chris Benoit marthon match that they dedicated to Owen. It was like 30 minutes long and was technically perfect.

The Mankind/Taker Hell in a Cell was a great match, I agree, but I would rather not see anyone take that type of abuse in a match.  There is a limit to how far they should go to entertain and going off the cage like that is too much.  The fall through the cage was an accident, sure, but the other one sure wasn't.

How many other guys have we seen doing stuff like that over the years since that didn't have to?  Look at AJ Styles... TNA won't put him at the top, where he belongs, and he's finally tired of that so much that rather than have the great matches he is capable of, he's dropping off three story scaffolds and flipping off a cage to get attention.  That's the influence Mick Foley has had.  Great worker, great style for him, but IMO it led directly to so many poor imitations and completely unnecessary risks.

Really? I always thought it was set-up as well. Either way, totally brutal. When we watched that match back in the day, we were in awe to say the least.

That's my assumption, and I think I remember Have a Nice Day stating it, but can't remember for sure now.  That fall was way too hard for anyone to try and expect to not sustain serious injury.  Not even Mick Foley.

I was thinking about that recently... watching ECW 1996 TV while doing other stuff.  Austin turned into Stone Cold in ECW, really... and if you look closely, much of what he became the Sandman had been doing for at least a year.  I wonder if Stone Cold Steve Austin would have ever happened if Austin doesn't spend those months in ECW near the Sandman.  Now, granted, the Sandman didn't have much in terms of ring skills and charisma, but his beer swilling, profanity tossing, cane anyone that moves character is very much Stone Cold two years later.

Ya, but Stone Cold was just great to watch back in the day. He had all the attitude for a while, but that promo with the Austin 3:16 is definitely what sent him through the roof.

By then, a lot of fans were already following him very closely, after the promos he cut directly at Bischoff and Hogan in ECW.  They were some of the first to really openly expose backstage info on major names from other companies, and probably the first that actually mattered, given the rest were from guys like Pillman and Heyman.  IMO, the "Austin was born at KOTR" thing has a lot of WWE revisionism to it.

I've been hit with those a few times.  You barely feel it, the glass is so thin.  The gas that comes out is actually worse if you don't hold your breath.  You have to really grind that glass into your skin to get a real cut from it.  That's why all of the backyard idiots use so many of them.

That sick ---fudgesicle--- actually LET that guy hit him with a weed whacker??? I wondered if it was real in the video, but wikipedia confirmed that he allowed it to happen.

Funny though, the final line of Wikipedia says the dude is a Blockbuster sales associate now. Glad destroying his body paid off.

CZW mostly sucks but some talent has made appearances there... keep an eye on Chris Hero, the guy is good.

Is anyone else irritated by videos that have Linkin Park playing in the background.

As if that song makes everything cooler.  ::)

I've seen Chris Hero at a local promotion in Pittsburgh a few times, he always puts on a good match.

The promo that officially turned The Ringmaster into Stone Cold Steve Austin.

In his prime and when he was sober, Jake The Snake was one of the best.  Even drunk he could cut a better promo than 90% of the wrestlers today.

I was at an iMPACT taping in October where Jake showed up unannounced. The crowd popped huge for him.  Then he started talking.  He was incoherent, kept losing his place, twice ended up lying down and couldn't get back up, and eventually put the snake in Spike Dudley's pants.  He was so pathetic the crowd, which was otherwise on fire all night because it was Angle's TNA debut taping, was completely silent trying to deal with what they just saw Jake had become.

I suppose you guy's preferences are tainted by nostalgia.  Behold... the undisputed greatest match in wrestling history.

80's wrestling is nice, but aside from some great exceptions, it was mostly a decade of fat slow guys fake punching each other in facepaint.  ;)

What .....blasphemy.

Maybe in the WWF... the 80s was the decade of the Four Horsemen.

You guys kill me.

Yes the Four Horsemen...  great faction (yawn) it consisted of Rick Flair and whatver 3 random scrub wrestlers they could scrounge up at the time (depending upon the incarnation).  Again this a nostalgia thing.  Sure rick (and only rick) had some great mike skills and rick (and only rick) can really wrestle, but all-in-all there was nothing lasting from the horsemen other than the concept of the faction.  The faction concept revolves around the fact that you can take one guy that can really wrestle or has really good mike skills and hae him carry several lesser wrestlers.

*sigh*  Some people mis the point about the hell in a cell match and Mick Foley.  The violence is only 1/3 of the match.  A base of real, actual, fundamental wrestling skills (i.e.  NOT hardcore wrestling) and a real, unique character with a back-story and decent mike skills are the other two thirds.  In HIAC the amazing part was the real wrestling moves used after poor old mick fell through the cage and the undertaker jumped down, fracturing his already broken foot even more.  So you have a one-legged man fighting a guy literally knocked silly and they STILL manage to give 5-10 min of fundamentals instead of just fake punching each other or ending the match.

As I said, undisputed gretest match ever..... that is for true wrestling fans that never stopped watching instead of casual "I watched some in the 80's and again in the 90's"  band-wagon jumpers.

There aren't many wrestlers out there that can wrestle hardcore AND can wrestle traditionally AND have a solid character with a rich history AND can actually entertain just by talking.  Mick and the Undertaker are probably the only two actually, which is why this match turned out so well.  That, along with some bad luck for Mr Foley and old pros like Terry Funk, who had sense enough to stall and thus enrich the story while Mick recovered.

Now sure there are a lot of wrestlers out there that can do 1 of the 4 often they can do 1 of the 4 much better than these individuals, but nobody has the total package like they do.

Just to give a run-down of some of the "greats"  and why they aren't as good.

Hulk Hogan/ The Rock/ Stone Cold  ... One dimensional characters which are wildy popular and yet very limiting (which is why the WWE "rotated" such uber characters so the fans didn't get sick of them.)  Their wrestling ability is severely limited... in the case of HH he couldn't wrestle his way out of a paper bag.

Chris Benoit / Bret Heart / Lance storm ect...  No personality what-so-ever.  They've all put on some of the greatest wrestling clinics in the history of the business, but outside of uber wrestling nerds, remember these bouts because there's no back-story to inject emotion into the match and all parties mentioned have about as much personality as a greasy spot on the mat.

Giant Gonzales / Kevin Nash / Yokozuna ect.... Pure gimmicks.  These men either have great presence, great size or both.  Their wrestling abilitiy is limited and their mike skills often aren't so great.  (nash being an obvious exception).  They usually spend one week wrestling followed by 6 months in rehab from pulling something.

Ultimate Warrior / Macho Man / Lex Luger / Coco beware ect...  Okay this is gonna hurt but somebody needs to tell you this.  These guys suck!  They can't wrestle, they have rather stupid characters, and all-in-all they had a career based on a catch phrase.  The reason you loved them so much and have such fond memories of them is because you were 6 at the time.  ;)  You'll still love them, I do, but you have to admit to yourself that they suck and all their matches also sucked.

I could go on but the point is "total package" wrestlers are rare, getting two in the same ring is rarer and getting them to pull off a gimmick match is rarer still.  HIAC was somethign that shouldn't be possible, and it'll never happen again.

I got to agree with Howard_Casto
on this one.
The Undertaker vs. Mankind (Mick Foley)
Hell In The Cell match was/is the greatest
wrestling show ever.
To be honest every match after that has
barely kept me awake.

Most blasphemy.  If Arn and Ole Anderson saw this, they'd probably turn you into ground beef.

Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard are two of the greatest ring workers in this history of pro wrestling.  Ole Anderson was just old school badass.  And Arn Anderson is at least as good on the mic as Ric Flair and possibly better.  Most modern wrestlers aspire to be Flair in the ring and Arn Anderson on the mic.

And for the record, UT vs Mankind HIAC, best match evAr FTW!

But how can we all forget...

Thats when he jumped ship from WCW to WWF.  When this happened Monday Night RAW was HUGE at my college campus.  This one moment stands out in my mind, listen to the crowd pop at about 1:19 into the vid, then listen to them turn on him less than 2 minutes later.

Oh, and one more moment that stands out in my mind is when SCSA, The Rock, Mankind, + Vince (The corporation?) teamed up against the UT and his ministry of darkness.  Just cant find a vid of that one...

Man, I'd forgotten how badly Jericho was blowing that promo until the Rock saved him.   :laugh2:  The only man in the history of wrestling who could control a crowd like the Rock is probably Vince himself.

Agreed.  Talk about a lack of respect for your peers!

The Four Horsemen were the greatest stable in the history of pro wrestling.  Granted, once they started to rotate that 4th guy it did get kinda weak.  But Tully, Arn, Ric and Ole were amazing as a group.

Here's some NWA/Horsemen greatness!

Original Four Horsemen vs. Dusty, Nikita and The Road Warriors

Friggin' Dusty.  What a mess but he could perform!

Man, Hawk could get up there on those Drop Kicks!

Sigh. . . That, my friends, is Pro Wrestling.   :)

Unfortunately, it's also just part of a match.  WTF people?!?  :(

Stacey Keibler dude. After I saw that picture, I had to go look for some more pictures. Definitely the best set of legs and bootie I've ever laid eyes on. FYI, I posted  some over in the cheesecake thread.

Anyways, in a few of the pictures it looked like her bobs are bigger. Did she get a boob job?? If so, she went to just the right size. ;D

Note: Stacey is the only female celebrity I will admit to the wife that I have a thing for - after seeing Dancing with the Stars last year, she doesn't blame me. :laugh2:
