USED MAKITA ROUTER?

is for sale in my area. They are asking $60, but I would offer less.

Is this router any good?  Link to Makita web site.

What's a good price or should I avoid this router and go with the Porter Cable at Lowes?

I would snag that up quick if it's in good condition.  It's a 3 1/4 HP which is probably more than HP than you need for most arcade stuff, but would be great for other heavier types of work too.

If it's 3.25HP, it's a monster. My favorite router for hand-held work is a light-weight 1.5HP model...

Is Makita a good brand? Cause I once had a Makita drill and it just froze on me. 

Couldn't even open it to fix it.

Scott? What 1.5 router would you reccomend? Would you use this type of router to do t-moulding?

Unless I'm mistaken, any reasonable router will route a T molding slot.  That's a light duty job.

That's an excellent router for $60. In fact, it's an excellent router period. I'd grab it. Check the brushes if you do decide to get it. They are very cheap to replace and usually the main reason routers go kaput if they do.

Be aware though, that it is single speed. That can be an issue if you decide to ever use large bits in it. Not a big issue though really.

I went and checked out this router and it's Grizzly brother.  I ended up taking home only the grizzly.  At 3.25 HP I felt that it was pretty heavy and much more powerful than I would ever need.  It was missing the 1/4 collet adapter so I would have to either find one or invent a replacement if I wanted to use the bits I just ordered.  It was also much more worn.  The guy lowered his price to $50 but I'm on a budget so was pretty happy with the smaller router for $20.

yeh makita are a good brand.
im asumming this is mainly an american forum, in england makita is one of the main brands used in the trades

One of the best brands, I think. I like their cordless drills tremendously. Unfortunately, all their other stuff is rather pricey so I tend to stick to Bosch. I don't like DeWalt much, it's often overpriced for what you get.

(I'd go for Festo if I could afford it  Oh, that may be a Dutch / European only brand? Dunno.)

I just ordered my new Bosch router... ah... A blue one, no less...

Festool is German made and engineered but very expensive. VERY expensive. A lot of people swear by their tools and they are nice, but IMHO overpriced. The performance increase isn't that great...
