Ow my left nut
« on: April 26, 2007, 04:46:36 pm »

Just got the call from the mechanic... rear struts and rear bearings are both completely shot.  108k miles, it's about that time.

I'm replacing - or rather trying to replace - my rear wheel bearings and shocks this weekend.  179K miles on the bearings, only about 113K on the shocks.
Must be that time of year.

I suppose.  Car does drive a LOT better now.  I hadn't realized how bad the rear bearings were.  Now I can hear all sorts of stuff that I couldn't before, like the gas sloshing around.  Mechanic said that one of the bearings on the right was starting to fuse to the spindle.  Ow.

I've had a front bearing fail so bad that the cylindrical things started falling out. ;D

Yeah, I know but the whole housing is called a bearing. I guess I could have said " the little bearings inside the main bearing". Just wanted to make sure everyone could get a visual. ::)

They're also known as rollers, the round one are commonly called "balls".  ;D

Shardian, your front bearings were bad?  Ever had the brakes done on the car?  Why didn't you just have 'em throw new ones in at that time and save money on labor?

Hey Chad, if they ask you if you want the headlight fluid topped off or to save money on labor and have your muffler bearings replaced at the same time, go down there with a bat when you pay.  You may wish to exchange your damaged nut for one of theirs ;D

Heh.  This particular mechanic is one of the few I've ever found that I actually trust.
