Ready to buy Xbox 360 but I want latest version. How can I tell what Im getting?

In the last year I have seen several of my friends xbox 360s die and so I held off for a while but now my PS2 is freezing so I need a new system. Half way through Resident Evil 4 and it freezes. I got many years out of it so its cool.
 
I hear that they have most of the bugs worked out now so I'm ready to get an xbox 360. "BUT how do I know that I'm getting a new version."

Also I live in the mountains and and do most of my shopping on line but Ill make a two hour drive if I have to in order to get a new version of 360.

After you open the box you can see the manufactur date.   However, there hasn;t been many changes in the last 6 months.  There's rumors of a new smaller cooler CPU and a black 360 with HDMI on it's way.

So its the hard drive that causes problems and I want a Samsung?

No, he's talking aboutt cd drive.  There's three, a hitachi (early moels, noisy),samsung (the one hackers are using) and the new benq which is suppose to be quiet.

Have they released the ones that have better processors?  I read that they were going to use a process that runs cooler and less power.  i think it was 90mm or something like that.  Hey if you want to go to circuit city to get one let me know cause i have a 15 dollar off 150 purchase coupon if you want to use the code.

I remember when my friend was buying his and he used the 15 dollar off but wouldnt use another coupon for 5 dollars off a game.  I said id wait in line behind him so he can use both coupons and he said no then when we left the store he was like oh i could have saved 5 dollars why didnt you remind me.  so yeah let me know.
