That looks like it would work on the GC too.

Yeah, it uses the GC port, so it'll work with simple GC games or emulators.

I ordered one in December and just got shipping notification last night.  I'll report back in a few days.

Or you could buy one of these. Not the same layout, but it will work with more gamecube games (viewtiful joe w/ that would be cool).

EDIT: Oops, looks like it only works with games that support control via the d-pad. Which is like none, because the GC d-pad is the suck. Still, if you have GB Player, it would be cool.

Seems like that one would suck for pretty much everything.  I don't get why they kept the GC button layout.  That might be passable for NES games but I can't image playing SNES games with it.

I meant on the GameCube, not on GameCube games played on the Wii.  The GameCube has emulation and other such things too.

Right.  That's also what I meant.  Other than missing network functionality, the Wii IS a GC when you run a GC disk.  I've been playing emulators in GC mode using an SD adaptor.  A real GC is going to work exactly the same.

If SNES adaptor works with the Gameboy Player, I may use them in an upcoming project I have.  Mainly a cab built around the idea of the linking Gameboy Player Gamecubes to a master Gamecube for Four Swords and Crystal Chronicles.  The Pacman VS setup is going to happen no question.  I still say Four Swords and Pacman VS are two of the best games of last generation.

This is old news hb (I started a thread about it, and how it's over-priced, about 2 months ago.), but thanks anyway.  :)

Just got my NES adaptor.  They do work great in Gamecube mode and in the virtual console.  I played a little VC Zelda and SMB, then played some Excite Bike and Tetris from an SD adaptor using the GC FCE Ultra emulator.

The connector sucks, though.  Neither of my original NES controllers wanted to plug into it.  In the end I had to put enough force into it that I think it was 50-50 whether it was going to connect or break.  I'm just going to leave it permanently connected because I doubt it'll work a second time.

I wish you would have read my thread, or told us what you were going to order.

You should have gotten the snes adaptor.  It is the same chip as the nes only a bridge is left open.  So with a togle switch and a nes extension cable you can make a nes/snes port combo.

I'm rather curious as to why you'd get a nes adaptor in the first place since the wiimote on it's side is essentially a nes controller and it's suppored by every single nes vc game.  Now snes I can see as the classic controller, for lack of a better word, is retarded with that cable running to the wiimote and dual analog sticks when none of the vc games have more than one.

Not picking, just trying to spread some info.

I ordered before your first post about the subject, not that it would have changed my mind.

I don't have the slightest interest in using a SNES controller or playing SNES games.  I never owned one, and only played it on a couple of occasions.  There's no nostalgia factor at all, and I'm not going to be purchasing any SNES VC games.  I actually bought this just for my wife.  She likes to use the original controller over any alternative.  I'm fine with using the Wiimote, although it's definitely inferior to the real thing.  If they were cheaper I'd order another for myself.

I went from nes to Sega Genesis.
I didn't play SNES until I started dating my wife in High School.

I never did.  I have a couple now but only because I picked them up at yard sales in the last couple of years.  I went from NES to UNIX.  Few of my friends had an SNES, either, they all had a Genesis if they had anything 16 bit.

A Sun?  I bought a used 3/50 with a 20" B/W monitor and external 5-1/4" "shoebox" hard drive around that time.  Good times....

And yeah, I also skipped from the NES to the Genesis.  Between the Sega and an Amiga I didn't have much use for a SNES.  I also felt that anything over 3 buttons was absolutely silly.

Wow so you guys back the wrong horse alot then.  The only decent console sega came out with was the last one and unortunately by then it was too late.

Genesis = Snes with a reduced color palette and worse sound.

Much like xbox vs ps2 they essentially had the same games on each system, only they looked better on the snes.  Plus the snes had mario zelda and metroid, which any gamer should be unable to pass up.

It's nice to see sega in a support role now.  They make great software.

Sega had Sonic. My wife dropped her SNES in a heart beat to get ahold of Sonic.
and the #1 reason people got a sega over SNES back in the day: Blood and guts in Mortal Kombat baby!

I was always a nintendo guy, so I never even had a Genesis until I started collecting. But yeah, the MK thing is why some of my buddies decided to go the Sega route.

I agree all the way here. Next to Nintendo, Sega is probably the best software company out there.

The Dreamcast is still awesome, though.

The Genesis had all of the sports games and that is what we all wanted.  NHL, FIFA, the earliest Maddens (I think it was Joe Montana then)...

There is no wrong horse.  We went with the system that had what we wanted.  The SNES didn't have the sports lineup until late in its life when it started getting inferior versions of some of the EA games.

The SNES also cost a lot more.  The hardware price didn't drop nearly as soon and the games were $10 more on average.  Hell, a couple of them started in the $70 range.  We couldn't afford that even if it was what we wanted.

Oh man, I LOVED NHL on Genesis. I had '93, '94, and '95. '93 was my favorite because you could fight and put people thru the glass occasionally. '95 had better control and was a little harder to score on. Joe Montana Football was good. The Shoot pass baby, yeah. That play was a completion 99% of the time for 20 yards or so.

At one point, Genesis games were outrageously priced too. Eternal Champions was $70 I believe.

I have to disagree here. NBA Live games on SNES were vastly superior to those on Genesis. I never really played the later Madden games on Genesis, so I can't say either way there.

Can't speak on the NBA games as we didn't care anything about basketball.  We were all hockey, football, and soccer.

Oh, come on. I own a Saturn and do like it, but it isn't even a comparison. Maybe if you lived in Japan you could have somewhat of a debate on the subject.

Or you simply import, and if you got in on it at the right time it wasnt an arm and a leg.

Ive got close to 200 saturn games from around the world, and Saturn Bomberman with two multitaps and 9 other people is something unstopable.  Couple that with Radient Silvergun, Batsugun, and BakuBaku, it was the first strike to kill the arcades in the 90s.

Heh, Saturn was my big spending heyday.  Bought at release, bought a lot of titles at original retail, continued to buy them later on too.  I probably have 75% of the domestic library and none of the games I'm missing are much more than crappy games with little value.

You have me there. I have never had more than 7 people on it, though. I had to bust it out when there were too many people to play Super Bomberman on SNES.

Projector actually.  In college we played it with foot tall bombermen.

And dont get me wrong, I have a Dreamcast and enjoy many of the games on it: Chu Chu Rocket, Soul Calibur, Toy Commander, Powerstone, just to name a few.  But it just came out at a time when I was wavering in videogames and never really got my attention.  The Saturn was really the last bastian of 2d console gaming, so it will always be with me.  It also had Clockwork Knight...

I had a SNES and later picked up a Genesis. Both systems had something to offer. Sports games on Genesis owned! I was hooked on FIFA from the first time I played it.

FIFA for the Sega CD was one of the few games that really benefitted from going to Sega CD.  The stereo CD sound was huge at that time.

I hate to interrupt the retro console wars but I have an interesting on-topic link: http://ppl-pilot.com/

A mod to make wireless NES and SNES controllers for the Wii or Gamecube.  I'm considering attempting it.

Well if you look at the parts list, you are spending 30-40 dollars for one adaptor.  Like I said, if you buy the usb retropad and the snes version, you can actually wire a nes plug to it and have a dual adaptor.  Mind you this one is wireless, but that's essentially useless as it's a fixed frequency and thus only one controller can be used.  Plus it may be wireless, but you have that big fugly dongle hanging off your wii and you have to hack up your original controllers.

Don't get me wrong, the end result is bad-ass, but it isn't exactly cost or time effective.
