Module #12 (?)--- I can't even remember :) DISKS OF TRON Module
« on: February 03, 2008, 06:39:48 pm »
Greetings....well here's my first project of the new year-- the Disks of Tron module.

I've had this one in mind for a few years now and I've been slowly gathering the parts. This one may be my most expensive to date (perhaps second to my Star Wars module) as I could never find a good Tron style joy stick.

I ended up buying a new trigger joy from Happs along with the Apache Up/Down spinner. Basically I've been sitting on these parts for almost 2 years so I thought it was time.

My biggest mistake?....stupidly ordering the WRONG joystick from Happs and not realizing it until I started the build. The problem? I ordered one with NO thumb button!...sigh. I ended up ordering the correct replacement template (that's why in some photo's it says Tron-- that was before I added the thumb buttons); and decided to add in the extra second thumb button....in case I want to use it with other games like Cobra Command in Daphne....or similar games.

Any how, the encoder is my beloved XArcade USB BYO kit and the Apache spinner has it's own encoder.

Just a note though-- for some reason I couldn't get my Apache spinner to remap in MAME so I had to change the left/right mouse button connections via hard wires on the spinner itself. The switch took all of a minute....but I had to contact Apache to get that advice. David the owner responded literally in minutes so I was up and running in no time.

Lastly, the art came from Classic Arcade Grafix before he closed his doors.

This one is 100% arcade perfect and accurate....and yes by the way, I'm a lefty!
