« on: March 21, 2006, 03:36:27 pm »
Need a bit of help chaps,i have a centronix 2793 chassis(only a year old)going into trip,i have checked the HOT and caps and they are good-i think the problem is with the FET or the fault sense IC but if anyone has had a similar fault on one of these then you advice would be gratefully recieved.

Is that a "Ceronix" model 2793 monitor as used in various video slot machines? If so, then Randy Fromm has somne info on his slot tech site.

well it took a long time to get round to looking at this chassis but this week i had a bit of time due to the holidays.i had two chassis playing up one in trip and the other in repeat shut down.
the first turned out to be the most tiny crack across the trace on neck board signal plug ;D
the second in shut down is still causing me problems :( but i am narrowing in on the fault, its down to either one of three componants :D

thanks for the links ken,
the last one is fantastic and i am sure the info there will get this monitor repaired.
one of the stated problems is something i had an idea would cause my fault and after reading the info i am gonna change the psu switching i/c as a matter of course,it seems this i/c is at the root of many power supply related problems.
these ceronix are not easy chassis to work on due to the use of many unique i/c's.
fingers crossed next week i will have this monitor repaired

i finally repaired these ceronix chassis and i thought i would post here the problem just in case anyone else has issue's like these.
both chassis had problems with the solder traces(not dry joints),i believe this was down to poor manufacturing process as one had never been used and the other less than a year old when the problem arose.
one chassis would not fire up at all and sit in trip, this turned out to be a bad trace on the neck card to chassis signal plug
the second, which i must add was a total pig of a job, turned out to be an actual trace missing on the transformer-when i say it was missing what i mean is the actual marking of the trace was there but there was no metal underneath :dizzy:
anyway i am over the moon to get these fixed as they were my last outstanding repairs left for me by the previous techs ;D

No trace? That's from bad manufacturing. Somebody must have left the circuit board in the acid etchant too long.
