Matching ROMS to SNAPS
ardarvin:
Thankfully NIVO has done a great job pf matching snap filenames to rom filenames, however in the world of console emulators, things aren't as good.
I've been playing with some SNES roms, and I've noticed that only about 50% of the matching snaps have the exact same filename, hence my FE (atomicFE) doesn't find the snaps.
For instance, I have a: ActRaiser (U) [!].zip
and a ActRaiser (U).png
Now I really don't want to have to go through and rename about 500 files, I was wondering if there was any software out there to do this.
If not, I may dust off my C++ skills, and try and code a little app to do this.

I think something like should exists already.
If you did find one . I will do one for you quickly.

You could try this web: http://no-intro.dlgsoftware.net ;)
Organic Jerk:
The snapshots from thet site seem to be named in their own format (CRC?) (ie: Starfox is "0BAE0941.png"), so they obviously won't play well with the Goodtools format..
I found a renaming utility on their "tools" page where you can use a dat file from romcenter.com to rename them, but it didn't work at all.. It told me the rom snaps I'm MISSING in goodtools format, but it didnt rename any of the snaps themselves..
I could just be doing it wrong.
EDIT: Scratch that, I was pointing to the wrong folder. I was pointing Directly to the snaps folder when it seems to like to be pointed to the console folder, which is one above. All renamed to Goodtools via a Romcenter dat.. Quite a few popped up in the missing list, though. Anyone with a complete romlist will still be out of luck.
EDIT2: Well it still seems to be the same deal... I have alot of snaps not represented.... more, actually

OK, I think I figured it out. Thanks for the tip Cananas...I quite like the no-intro naming mentality.
OK, so here's the secret to life, the universe, and everything...
OrganicJerk you are halfway there. Like you did...rename your CRC named snaps to the GoodTools format, using the DAT file from romcenter.
Now...open up the romcenter.exe, and load the same DAT file as your database. Add your local ROM directory as your path. Now you should see a crap load of yellow ROM files with the "bad file name..." error, as well as "bad rom name error". Ignore the latter, as they are just extension changes, and I think if you rename them, you may very well run into problems with your emulator.
However, sort your ROM list by error message, then right-click on all the "bad file name" ROMS, advanced, rename files.
That should do it. I've now got 100% matching snaps to roms.
