PS2 light gun with component video
« on: March 05, 2007, 02:02:40 pm »
Have any of you used a Playstation 2 light gun with component video?

I've got one working, by connecting the "yellow" plug to the green (out of the R G and B, G carries the sync), but whenever I aim at dark/black parts of the screen, the game thinks I'm aiming off-screen.

Advice?

If it works when you aim at something bright, then the setup is technically sound - the gun is getting the syncs off the green no problem.

What you are talking about is a limitation of that type of light-gun technology. Does the gun/game flash the screen when you fire? Thats a common approach.

If not, your options are:

1) Crank up monitor brightness for that game

2) Use lightguns based on different technolgy (infra-red or camera).

I'm playing Dino Stalker. It does not flash the screen. (Not that I've noticed anyways).

The game is made for Namco's Guncon2. The gun is a third-party gun, but has a switch to choose "normal", "guncon", or "guncon2" modes. I of course have it on Guncon2

It's alright. It's still fun considering it's from 2001.

I just wish the gun had an analog stick for walking around, instead of this crappy d-pad.
