Source for Emulaxian video files?
« on: April 04, 2003, 06:17:06 pm »
the thoughtslice server linked from the Emulaxian homepage has been down forever.  Is there another source for the real media video files (the ones which play on the screen of the 3d models). If not, can anyone explain to me how to capture my own videos?

thx,

)p( contacted him and we are still uncertain of the problem.  I have the entire set plus a few if someone with serious bandwidth is willing to host.  (and i mean it, the collection is frikkin huge)  Btw I have also converted the whole collection to mpeg2 in preparation for dxlaz, but that takes up even more space. :)

We had discussed searching for mirrors privately, but since we are having issues now is as good a time as any to ask.  If anyone can help please contact peter.

yah, I'm sure the entire collection is huge.  I bet people would be willing to pay $ to get the whole set burned on cdr's.  I know I would.  To be honest the videos I really want probably don't even exist (Killer Instinct(s), Mortal Kombat(s), etc.)  That's why I would like to look into capturing my own videos but I don't even know where to start.

P.S. How are the Killer Instinct models coming?  I bought a 3dsMAX book yesterday so hopefully I will be able to contribute some models of my own before too long.

Creating the videos is somewhat of a pain.  First you need to capture the video using something like HyperCam or Camtasia, usually in an AVI format.  Then, you must convert it to Real Media format using Real Producer.  It's very much a hit/miss proposition.  I've made a few for myself and it's darn hard to get one that runs smoothly yet isn't too large.

It will be much nicer once we can use MPEG with dxlaz.  My hope is that Emulaxian will also eventually get to that stage.

Howard, if you see this, how large is the full collection anyway?

The full collection is 5 to 10 times larger than the real versions.... thus they will probably be kept in real format on the hosted site and we will link to the converter i found.

Btw I made a app based off of peter's orignal code inside emulaxian.  It works fairly well, I just never released it to the public because as you say, it's a very touchy process.

Oh and about the paying thing.... there is one problem I see with that....  Like the tombstone project it takes time to make the cds. I dont' know of anyone revolving around the 3darade site that would have the time to do it. (myself included)  Also if someone were convinced they would probably only be willing if it was worth their time (eg a profit ect...)  as we all know that is illegal though.

I must add that bandwidth will be a serious issue as more and more fe's are going for video support. I first hosted video's on mameworld and could only have a couple of them online at the same time. Then thoughtslice came around to rescue ;)

That is also as hc said why we think we will keep them in real format for distribution.

Oh the ki cabs are on hold but nearly completed.  I'm waiting on someone with a real cab to send me pics of a few things.  Might as well wait and do it right :)
