Monitor Issue(s) (Fixed!!)
« on: January 19, 2007, 09:06:16 am »
OK, got around to firing up the Neo after moving into our house. It has been moved twice sence being running. When we originally moved out of our house, it did get a good bump. The machine does run, and if I turn up the contrast I can see the picture, but it looks like there are 4 images overlapping eachother. I can't be 100% sure but I think that this monitor has had a capkit at some point, and before original move, picture was very crisp. It's a 25" WG monitor. (Not at home, so don't remember exact model. It has the remote thing for adjusting everything. I've checked all the connections, and all looks good. Just looking for some other tips to try.

thanks!

Did you degauss?

Unless it has a built in degausser, then I would say no, but I "think" it has one built in.  If it doesn't, is it easy to do?

OK...does your remote board have a switch on it?   I ask because mine does...that is a manual degauss.

The other option is to purchase a degauss wand...costs some dough though and it takes a while to get to  you.

The 3rd option is to try to run a high speed drill close to the monitor glass...I have yet to find this option to work...though some claim it does...but I only have a household drill.

The 4th option and the one I did was I took apart an old hard drive and retrieved the two magnets from within.   I stick one magnet to one side of a wood boring type drill bit and the other magnet on the other side with as much separation as possible.  I then turned on the drill (low speed as to not spin fast enough for the magnets to come off) and then maneuvered the drill toward the monitor like I was shooting at it...as you get closer,  the screen with do some funky things....while still spinning the magnets with the drill, move the magnets all around the screen...corner to corner,  diagonal,  etc...then while still spinning,  back away from the monitor.

The key to success is to spin the magnets while going in...moving around...and then removing...do not stop spinning.   It took 2 maybe 3 passes to fix the problem I got when I inverted one of my monitors.

Stupid question, do I do this with monitor powered up, or off?

Model # please.

Are these images overlapping vertically or horizontally?

You didn't crack or damage the circuit  boards did you?

I'll dig up model # when I get home.

It basically looks like the images are side by side, not on top of eachother.

I can't imagine that one of the boards cracked, but you never know.

It's possible that one or more of the pots on the remote board are either broken internally or out of adjustment. Maybe even the remote board is partly unplugged?

It's not unplugged or loose.  I did play with the pots, and that's how I saw the picture when I turned up the contrast.  None of the others seemed to make any significant difference.

Just to let you know, problem is fixed. Turned out 2 of the pots on the remote board got damaged. Got one of them fixed, the other has a broken leg. I may just re-solder the broken leg, and be good to go.

Thanks to all for their help.

I was going to say...that sure doesn't sound like a gaussing issue.  Glad you worked it out.
