Help Wanted- Token design
« on: January 02, 2007, 07:38:12 pm »
I am making a BYOAC token design, so I can practice.  Please tell me what you think… but please, no  :lame:

I am creating the elements of the token with a lightweight version of the GIMP http://seashore.sourceforge.net/ & an old version of Corel Painter 8.  I am adding the text & arranging elements in a drawing program called, AppleWorks

From our experience with the BYOAC token design, I can tell you that you have elements there that are just too tiny to engrave on a die.  Remember that the actual engraving will be less than an inch across.  The double-outlines on the font, the little "highlights" on the characters, the thinness of the lines, none of that is likely to render.

It's easy to make this mistake; we did too at first.  When you're designing on an image that's 10 inches across on the screen, you totally lose your sense of scale.  My suggestion is to print out the token at its real size of .984" across, cut it out, tape it to a quarter, and hold it in your hand next to a real token from Chuck E. Cheese or one of the BYOAC tokens, and you'll quickly get an idea of what can be done and what can't.

I've vectorized it, changed the font, and made a few other changes— what do you think
