Need Help wiring new 19" CGA Monitor & Board
« on: December 27, 2006, 11:03:40 am »
I have a 1979 Mspacman cocktail. Everything works great but needed a new monitor. I got a new Vision Pro 19" CGA monitor. It fit right into the game, no problems, but the paperwork says it doesnt need an isolation transformer. The original monitor board had a 2 pin connector feeding power to the board. A black wire and a brown... do these 2 wires connect to the white and black wires to the new monitor ?....if so..which goes to which ?? Secondly.... the video feed wires. The original monitor board had 6 wires coming to it for video feed, one from a 4 pin connector, one 2 pin connector. The colors of the original wires do not match the new wires which are the red, green, blue, black and 2 others which I cant recall ( not sitting near the monitor)....any help on correctly wiring this monitor so I dont trash it ?????

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

www.homearcade.org/BBBB/sync.html should explain your video cable a little more clearly.

Ken, Thanks for that reply. I checked out that page and have a better understanding of how things work, however, I still have no clue how to hook up the wires.  The new monitor baord came wired with all of those leads already, but they need to be connected to the original leads coming from the game board, thats where I'm confused. I'm going to take some pics and post again. Pardon me, I'm just a newbie.

Thanks

ok...can anyone tell me which wires get connected to what ?  The red, blue ,green, black ( ground of course) and the yellow and white?    and also the power supply.....which wire from the original supply (black w/ red stripe, or brown) gets hooked to the black lead on the new power supply.
Direction would be greatly appreciated ... I have the feeling the answer is going to make me feel like an idiot...hahaha...thats ok, I'm willing to take the risk...thanks for the help

Your questions are a bit confusing.  You keep refering to power supply.  Your new monitor if if does not need an isolation transformer connects directly to ac.   Blk hot,   Wht Neutral and Grn Ground.   Sorry cannot assist on the mspacman wiring.

After re reading that, you may be right. The power supply is rather obvious. Its the other leads in the other pic that has me baffled.  Red, blue, green, black , white, yellow......where the heck do they go ? Again, I'm assuming they would have to get connected to the original wires that were going to the original monitor board. I just have no clue which goes to which since none of the colors match up

The red wire appears to correspond to the red wire on your original harness.  Everything else also appears to correspond to your original wiring.

The sync wires would go on the very right of the harness.

Pretty much plug it in the way you found it, you'll be a'ight.

Red wire = Red input
Blue wire = Blue input
Greed wire = Green input
Black wire = Ground
The other two wires are your horizontal and vertical sync.

Of the old plugs...the 4 wire plug is likely (R)ed, (G)reen, (B)lue and ground.  The two seperate wires are likely the sync wires.

Power connector looks like black with stripe goes to the new black. Gray goes to new white. Green is the frame ground wire. You can go to Radio Shack and get # 274-223 Pin Extractor tool to get the connector pins out of your connectors to swap them over to match the cabinet wiring harness for power.

You don't even need the new video harness. It appears that the old harness will reach the new connector on the new monitor just fine. All you need to do is pop out the two sync wires from the small connector and move them into the two empty slots in the existing 6 pin connector next to the other 4 wires. You can use a bent paper clip or awl to press the tiny release tab on the existing connector terminals and gently tug on the wires as you push the tab to get them out.

I've been talking with him via chat.  He did what I suggested and has it up and running just fine.
